I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work with great, smart people. Flexible hours and access to technology. Good benefits. Lots of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Leadership needs to evolve more. Approach to developing technology is not up to date. While benefits are good, they are changing with employees absorbing more through HSA and co-pays.

    Advice to Management

Think about your people more and stop playing politics.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Best Employee Friendly Company I have ever seen, good perks, good food , good work culture good cocurricular facilities. Company is transforming by adopting cutting edge technologies . Research and innovation wing under new leadership has been able to re energise staff . Exciting things are happening at this department . Great penchant for innovation

    Cons

Should improve hiring process . Its very slow and time taking process . Time lines for hiring is generally more than 8 months which is very tedious and time consuming . Overall coordination with many departments is slow and issues that need faster resolution doesn’t happen overnight . Finance and travel department needs strong restructuring . Any issues addressed to these departments doesn’t get resolved quickly

    Advice to Management

    1. Some of the managers are pathetic. It's miserable to work under these guys. 2. Too much process 3. Inter-team communication is terrible 4. Please learn how from research and innovation wing led by Satish C has been able to ring in positive changes . He is one of most widely accepted leaders in Organisation with positive outlook . His enhanced greater role in the new setup could bring in significant changes on... how we portray Microsoft while adopting digital transformation

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opportunity to work with smart, innovative people. Enthusiasm for the company from long term employees is high. People stay for many years and are rewarded for their loyalty.

    Cons

Very difficult to make an impact as a new employee in a satellite office. Most of the decisions are made in Redmond, so there is little opportunity for growth and innovation. Employees are not sufficiently empowered. This is due in part to the staying power of the long term employees. It leaves little opportunity for professional growth.

    Advice to Management

Continue on the past of positive innovation put in place by Satya Nadella. He is an inspiring leader. Have confidence in your employees to make smart decisions that are good for the company. Do not micromanage.

    I worked at Microsoft full-time

    Pros

Really Cool world-changing products and technology Exciting dynamic environment Outstanding benefits

    Cons

Employee evaluation process fosters unhealthy internal competition at the expense of cooperation. Hard to keep a healthy work-life balance. Culture of long, long working hours as a 'badge of honour'. Pay is NOT great once you divide by #hours worked...

    Advice to Management

Make respecting work life balance an active priority, not a lip - service platitude.

I worked at Microsoft for more than 8 years

    Pros

Really trying to get more nimble. Satya has energized the company with clarity of vision.

    Cons

There are parts - sales, services orgs in REDMOND etc come to mind - which still move at a glacial pace and not exactly where the highest caliber of talent is.

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Microsoft is performing in the market. Microsoft can deliver on business value.

    Cons

Some products are improving, but overall Microsoft's products are only successful because of their long-held locked-in enterprise accounts where they are very effective at sustaining relationships and revenue -- culture is horrible despite reports that Satya has improved this -- burn out is frequent and attitudes towards employees are that they are disposable

    Advice to Management

Value individual contributors as much as you value management (note -- I was in mgt)
