I have been working at Microsystems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive and accessible middle and senior leadership that really cares about encouraging and developing their employees. They try to be as transparent as possible to make everyone feel informed and valued. Organizational culture where you are actively encouraged to innovate and try new things. Fantastic new office in downtown Chicago with awesome amenities. Great benefits for a smaller company.

    Cons

For being a 20 year old company, it can feel like a startup, which means some uncertainty and constant change. Can take some adjusting to if you're not used to it.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at Microsystems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, excellent products, emphasis on growing business and team. Amazing new office in downtown Chicago. Inspiring leadership, and a strong sense of purpose. The history gives some structure, which is nice for a tech firm.

    Cons

Diversity, but it's being addressed. Insurance can get expensive for those with families. There's rapid change, which is a problem for some but not others.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the transparency and hiring good people. Focus on increasing diversity and growth will follow.

    I worked at Microsystems full-time

    Pros

This company makes great products. They solve real business problems. They're unique. They have a well defined market. Product management, development and support teams are top notch.

Employees at the individual contributor level are smart and driven. Lot's of great people.

    Cons

There is a revolving door at the ownership / executive level. The executive team can also veer into micromanagement, which is counterproductive when trying to motivate smart, independent employees.

    Advice to Management

    1. Be leaders and stay out of the weeds.

    2. Rank and file employees are growing more and more restless. Get your act together quickly, or the revolving door will not be only at the executive level anymore.

I worked at Microsystems (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great leadership (not just 'management'-ship). Transparent, VERY hardworking CEO with a strong technical background who champions all functions of the business and adds a little bit extra to the Development team (which makes sense since they are a software vendor at their core, however not all companies do this right..).

Even when sales predictions were not met, CEO fought very hard for employee bonuses. GREAT company to work for. I have been on the Client Services side and Development side, fantastic leadership all around.

Very experienced, sharp Development leadership team overall.

    Cons

Difficulties aligning marketing and sales strategies. Investing into other verticals seems to be going too slow.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and keep allowing teams to self-form, and make their own decisions on how to attain a shared goal. Keep hiring people who are smart and gets things done. Avoid the 'nine to five' 'Dilbert' employees who are just in it for the paycheck but don't want to take responsibility in continuously improving themselves, their teammates, the whole organization...

Should let individuals take more (calculated) risks and have a higher tolerance for failure (but not repeated failure obviously).
