I have been working at Mid Coast Hospital part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

calm atmosphere, everybody knows your name, beautiful accommodations, great and helpful staff, time to give great one to one care

    Cons

Change happens very slowly, some staff have been there a long time and like the way they do things making it difficult for good change, , the best, newest, brightest, evidence based ways of doing things haven't made their way up 295. all communication is given out on days, . We don't use self scheduling on our unit and I was not told that until after I was hired so that totally did away with any of my work/life balance....

    Advice to Management

Encourage nursing staff to go to professional development and be revitalized.. Spend on staff that will stay and less on locums, have per diem work their regular shifts, less money Any way to save money is great with me. MidCoast is only 1/2 an hour from Portland but the pay is $ 10.00 less. Its also 1 hour south of Augusta and its pay is 10.00 less. It really needs to compete with the...

I worked at Mid Coast Hospital full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Within the department I worked we were like family. The direct supervisor really cared about his staff.

      Cons

The upper management showed no compassion toward support staff. They are top heavy in management, but keep support staff at a minimum. When you tried to bring issues, whether small or serious to upper management and even HR they were pushed aside, even when it involved patient safety. Pay is low, raises are minimal and medical/dental benefits are costly for working at a hospital. Pretty sad when you work for a hospital...

      Advice to Management

Pay attention to all your staff, not just nurses and doctors. Instead of focusing on growing, focus on perfecting what you have. Bigger does not always mean better. When you grow as a business, but cut your employee's raises/earned time and increase the cost of benefits it doesn't make employees feel good about where they work. And just because you hire someone as a department manager doesn't mean that everything...

I worked at Mid Coast Hospital full-time

      Pros

Wonderful people to work with. Direct supervisors were wonderful. Fun little parties, training.

      Cons

Upper management. If you're not part of the "A team" you're nothing. Don't even bother wasting your time.

      Advice to Management

Start looking for other people to appreciate other than your favorites. Sometimes the management you have in place isn't working, since most of the times the things they touch, end up failing.

I worked at Mid Coast Hospital

      Pros

Worked with some dedicated people. The Patient Care .

      Cons

Support departments run on minimal staff expanding but not staffing. I.e. MCMG's, Parkview

      Advice to Management

The lack of staffing in these areas is showing and people are leaving. These departments are critical to being able to maintain patient care levels even though they are behind the scene.

I have been working at Mid Coast Hospital

        Pros

Fairly new facility, pay is average. Saturates every medical bit in the Midcoast region, so access is easy. Not sure

        Cons

You've got to watch your back so much from the stabbers that it can be difficult to look at the patient in front of you.

        Advice to Management

Don't believe everything you hear! They're are two sides to EVERY story

I worked at Mid Coast Hospital full-time for more than 10 years

        Pros

Colleagues were great and family like atmosphere

        Cons

When taking over Parkview, they lost sight of the employees and specific care of the patients- it became all about the money. Certain employees that had been there for a long time were awful and drove out staff especially in the emergency department
