I have been working at Mid Coast Hospital part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

calm atmosphere, everybody knows your name, beautiful accommodations, great and helpful staff, time to give great one to one care

    Cons

Change happens very slowly, some staff have been there a long time and like the way they do things making it difficult for good change, , the best, newest, brightest, evidence based ways of doing things haven't made their way up 295. all communication is given out on days, . We don't use self scheduling on our unit and I was not told that until after I was hired so that totally did away with any of my work/life balance. I never get a holiday w/e with my family. I can't use the benefits because I live in Portland and all of the discounts are in Portland.

    Advice to Management

Encourage nursing staff to go to professional development and be revitalized.. Spend on staff that will stay and less on locums, have per diem work their regular shifts, less money

Any way to save money is great with me. MidCoast is only 1/2 an hour from Portland but the pay is $ 10.00 less. Its also 1 hour south of Augusta and its pay is 10.00 less. It really needs to compete with the other other hospitals. What will happen is that the older RN's when they retire will not be replaced by younger RN's because the pay is so different compared to other hospitals. I think that having per diems on the books but never making them work their required shifts doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like it has used up all of our wages for filling our holes . I know I haven't had a raise since I started in 2012. In fact I went backward when I went from per diem to hourly. That has always seemed wrong considering that I was taking a $10 pay cut. I believe other people have received raises???

    Pros

Worked with some dedicated people. The Patient Care .

    Cons

Support departments run on minimal staff expanding but not staffing. I.e. MCMG's, Parkview

    Advice to Management

The lack of staffing in these areas is showing and people are leaving. These departments are critical to being able to maintain patient care levels even though they are behind the scene.

    Pros

Fairly new facility, pay is average. Saturates every medical bit in the Midcoast region, so access is easy. Not sure

    Cons

You've got to watch your back so much from the stabbers that it can be difficult to look at the patient in front of you.

    Advice to Management

Don't believe everything you hear! They're are two sides to EVERY story

I worked at Mid Coast Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Colleagues were great and family like atmosphere

    Cons

When taking over Parkview, they lost sight of the employees and specific care of the patients- it became all about the money. Certain employees that had been there for a long time were awful and drove out staff especially in the emergency department

    Pros

Very flexible with hours and family life. Generally a positive atmosphere.

    Cons

The staff is a bit under paid with minimal raises, the management is very guilty of micromanaging.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Mid Coast Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

My boss is great. The pay isn't too bad and vacation time is good. Flexibility is pretty good too. Not a whole lot of advancement but it's a health organization.

    Cons

Senior leadership doesn't listen to associates and have their head in the clouds. Benefits suck for a health organization. Directors run programs into the ground. When outsiders are telling patients not to choose a service because the managements are trouble, there's issues!

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your associates when they tell you there is an issue! Don't assume because we aren't VPs or directors that we don't know what is going on. Some of your so called VP or "executive" directors aren't doing you any justice.
