I worked at MidState Medical Center part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A large system. Positions are offered to internal employees before new employees. You can maintain years of service but transfer your role at other locations, such as Hartford Hospital.

    Cons

Heathcare staff lacks professionalism. Catty and clicky nurses. Some of the physicians are rude and pompous.

    Advice to Management

Teach staff to be professional to internal employees.

    Pros

Midstate is a great place to work. The people are friendly, the hospital is clean, and most bosses are respectful.

    Cons

Now that Midstate is part of Hartford Healthcare, there have been many layoffs with more to come. Moral is down. They tend to not replace the person laided off and the one left behind gets to do the work of two 40 hour positions.

    Advice to Management

Better communication and planning. Before you lay someone off, collect job responsibilities from manager and put a communication plan in place so the work doesn't fall on one person. That person needs for you to communicate what will happen next instead of ignoring what has just happened.

I have been working at MidState Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice coworkers. Self scheduling.Easy to get to know everyone. Every third weekend unlike most hospitals. That's just about it.

    Cons

Benefits, cancellation policies, can't take time off in summer when you want, priority is given to higher seniority. You get the left over time if it works for your vacation needs. High turn over rate. Constantly short staffed.

    Advice to Management

No management listens so why bother giving any advice?

I worked at MidState Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Small community hospital with patient focused care. Decent RN to patient ratios and every 3rd weekend make it a great place to work.

    Cons

Benefits could be a little less money but that is the way things are starting to go.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your RN's and your patient satisfaction scores will increase

  6. "Was a great place to work before HHC"

I worked at MidState Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Use to be a great place to work before Hartford healthcare- the most common quote ringing in the halls is "why does HHC keep getting rid of all the good people " that's just sad.

    Cons

Hartford HealthCare changed the family like work environment. People used to be happy and helpful and always encouraged to grow, but now the morale is sad and fearful, which can't be good for patient care. MidState was a gem, hopefully it can shake the dirt off and shine again.

    Advice to Management

Let each entity be, becoming a system for the benefit of purchase power and streamlining process in times of financial need is fine, but taking the very essence away is a misguided step which will/has resulted in poor morale- let MidState and the others maintain their unique profile.

    Pros

Awesome co-workers, great environment...co-workers are always there to help. Pay is decent.

    Cons

    Job security and some favoritism.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

The physical environment of the facility is comfortable.

    Cons

Wish the policies and procedures had been more in tune with current practice guidelines/scope of practice criteria.

    Advice to Management

    Better communication.

I have been working at MidState Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    My colleagues have been wonderful

    Cons

I have been employed there 33years, and after a long, severe illness, I am not being allowed to return to my old position, due to a "hiring freeze", yet they have hired many traveler nurses and moved a nurse from another unit into my unit.they have offered me a per diem position, to work for the traveler's agency, or to bid into an open position.

    Advice to Management

After 33 years of exceptional employment, I see that this does not matter to anyone. I DEVOTED my nursing career to MMC, and it was all for naught. Using semantics that you have not " hired " anyone is untrue: you hired traveling nurses and put a nurse from Pav A into these jobs ( one of them MINE). All I ask for is fairness, not preferential treatment.

    Pros

MidState is a vibrant and progressive organization, with genuine concern for its patients and employees, plus a passion for excellence in every respect.

    Cons

The only con is the one you create in your mind.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.
