    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Middletown Public Schools part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, working with children. Able to work in a field I love until a full-time job comes along.

    Cons

Pay is very low for a college graduate. Never really know the situation you will be put in,

    Advice to Management

    Pay at least $100/day

I have been working at Middletown Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great for Moms! Time off when kids are off! Benefits are good.

    Cons

Work is not year-round, only 36 weeks or 180 days a year. No room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Look at the big picture and appreciate the little people in the trenches.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Peers are very professional and go above and beyond. Support from the teachers and staff for new employees is fantastic.

    Cons

Leadership from the Supt. to the building Admin are terrible. Dictatorial management styles never ask those on the front lines for input. District perpetually revolves through the latest and greatest new teaching style and then drops it a few years later for the next big thing.

    Advice to Management

Seek, and value, input from the staff and hire more school librarians. We miss them at the Elem. level and the libraries have been closed.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Middletown Public Schools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Tons of technology initiatives, many opportunities for growth

    Cons

Micromanagement at every level, continuous turn-over of administrators, poor implementation of initiatives leads to overwhelming competitiveness in the staff

    Advice to Management

Trust those you hire to be experts in their field. You don't have to know everything but not trusting your staff to know their areas makes them feel undervalued. Continuous change of administrators makes it hard for programs to have any continuous support.
