    Pros

Great place if you have kids! They can go to the school you work at and you have all of the same days off.

    Cons

The job does not pay very much.

I worked at Midland Independant SD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Finding out how our school system really works was interesting. I also liked my work schedule and having summers off. The Holiday breaks were great too.

    Cons

Learning that the school district doesn't have the child's best interest in mind. Teachers are not able to work to the best of their abilities. Lack of support.

    Advice to Management

    Overhaul the Spec. Ed. program.

    Pros

District offers Lead Reading teachers to assist in reading instruction.

    Cons

Too much paperwork!!!!!! Many hours, above and beyond the call of duty are required which takes away from personal time. I spent most every week-end trying to stay "caught up" and missed family events, church and week-end outings. Also, excessive emails were a problem and interrupted instructional time!

    Advice to Management

Lessen up on paper work and staff development/training! 3x at least a week is totally uncalled for. All of this "training" takes away from prep. time, parent conferences, tutoring, etc.

I worked at Midland Independant SD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Teacher salaries are high in comparison to other districts in the panhandle area, which helps to off-set the overall higger cost of living.

    Cons

The inmates are running the asylum. Student behavior is atrocious and administration, both at the campus level and central office, doesn't back up the teachers.

Staff development opportunities are poor especially when compared with Region 17 and 16.

    Advice to Management

Teachers can't teach in classrooms where students are disruptive and suffer little, if any, consequences.

    Pros

Steady schedule, quick hiring, minimal training, plenty of information available on the internet that will help you navigate.

    Cons

Lack of training, innovation, most of the books and equipment are outdated. Students with the worst problems are given to the new-least experienced teachers, which is counterintuitive.

    Advice to Management

Consider the level of experience that may be necessary to appropriately navigate certain students. It is unlikely that a failing situation will be best handled by a newbie.
