I have been working at Midtown Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are the sort of person who can handle driving their own career (with minimal resources, but enough to point you in the right direction) and are interested in business development and being a thought leader, this is a good place to go. If feels in many ways like you are running your own business with the luxury of having stability from being part of a consulting firm. If you have the drive, it's a great place to make a name for yourself. Ultimately, you feel like a respected consultant most of the time, not a contingent resource, and that is because of expectations set with clients, which is always necessary. You can see the value you add to a client instead of parachuting in and leaving before anything real happens. And you are responsible for that value coming true. Atlanta office space is really cool and the Charlotte office an staff are a fun group.

    Cons

If you're coming from a large consulting firm, you will find that you are not working on large consulting teams as often and, if you are, you won't have an army of Midtown consultants reporting to you. You need to roll up your sleeves.

    Advice to Management

Define and stick to a firm strategy and focus area. Narrow down industries. Dedicate resources to eminence/marketing development with hard goals.

    Pros

    Flexibility & pay seems average.

    Cons

Promotion requirements & bonus structure isn't exactly clear cut.

I worked at Midtown Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good pay and very generous bonuses
    - Great work/life balance
    - Culture of independence - no micromanagement
     - Very friendly people

    Cons

    - The projects they sell tend to be boring/tedious
    - They have become more of a staffing agency than a consulting company
    - They keep branding themselves as a consulting company even though their main focus is on staffing. That creates mismatched expectations from clients/employees and leads to a lot of negativity.

    Advice to Management

Own the fact that you're pivoting into a staffing agency. Don't pretend to be something you're not. Your clients and employees will be much happier.

I have been working at Midtown Consulting Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I’ve been within the financial service industry for apx 13 year; my last 2 years at MCG have been remarkable. The amount that I have learned from Jeff and the leadership have truly changed my mind on how consulting should be done. Their ability to proactively ensure each individual employee is satisfied from a financial, career and lifestyle perspective is astonishing.

    Cons

Don't really have anything negative to say about MCG

    Advice to Management

Continue doing exactly what you are doing

I worked at Midtown Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Until the last couple of years, Midtown was a great place to work. Had a great list of clients to work with and a good story to tell. There were many great consultants which helped attract more great talent.

    Cons

Management team has lost its way and outgrown its abilities. Not focused on cohesive business development plan across the board; BD plan is like throwing darts at a board. Full time business development team needed in all offices from day one. Compensation package is not aligned across the company for given roles and duties from one office to the other. Comp for same role in mature office vs emerging office should not be the same. Emerging offices require more work to get off the ground.

    Advice to Management

Stop poaching from your long time competitor/former employer. The bad culture and habits are becoming engrained in the culture at Midtown and having a negative impact. ALWAYS KEEP THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CLIENT FIRST.

    Pros

Financial rewards, decent benefits, you basically get to call your own shots. There aren't 20 words of "pros" to describe this trainwreck.

    Cons

little management or leadership, no respect for women or minorities, no training or career advancement. Tiny client base. Their ambitions exceed their capabilities.

    Advice to Management

hire a true leader to run the company. you've outgrown your old boy network. hold biz dev accountable. if you want to be a staffing company - quit calling yourselves consultants.

I have been working at Midtown Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Company has reasonable compensation ranges
Company also has reasonable work/life balance
Client demands for travel are often low or very reasonable
Office is often stocked with candy and soda

    Cons

    Poor organizational communication
Company is very confused about who they are and what they do - Job Instability!
Company refuses to reveal bonus compensation calculations
    Lack of performance accountability
lacks reliable and stable team expertise
    passive-aggressive management style
Unclear career path; company operates more like a staffing/temp firm

    Advice to Management

Determine who you want to be and where you want to go as a company. Communicate to your team of employees and stop the wishy-washy and passive-aggressive style. It seems like high value expertise and sales people are being pushed out while low performers stay (Charlotte ans Atlanta)
