I worked at Milbank Manufacturing full-time

    Pros

Most of the professional office employees at Milbank are hardworking and dedicated people. They are kind and welcoming, and in general the company tries to maintain a sense of a "family business".

    Cons

The company was embarking on a technology development path but, due to a change in upper management, the direction shifted and almost all of the software and hardware engineers have left the company within the last year.

Many members of management exhibit behaviors indicative of either low self-esteem or subconsciously-perceived incompetence. These managers often deflect responsibility for failures in business plans or strategies towards implementers, while modifying KPIs and yearly goals to reflect current reality and then claiming success.

    Advice to Management

After the departure of the long-time external CEO, a new "home-grown" CEO was installed that has never worked anywhere but Milbank, supported by other senior staff who also have never worked anywhere else or have been at Milbank for decades. Steering the company 180 degrees away from technology and IoT development back to simple gray metal boxes may feel comfortable, but it will not be a long-term path for growth. Seek outside help to set a future vision and strategy other than "Make Milbank Great Again like it was in 1980".

I have been working at Milbank Manufacturing full-time

    Pros

Milbank is transforming itself from a sleepy little one-trick-pony company into a growing, diversified, and innovative enterprise. The executive team is committed to developing new technology to insure its future success and to lean in order to reduce rework and frustration. Pay is good, benefits are solid, and the leadership team is improving with each new individual they hire. The company has recieved numerous awards in the KC area - Champions of Business (3 years in a row), Impact Technology Award, and CFO of the Year award.

    Cons

Some key leaders have only worked at one place - Milbank, so sometimes there is a pretty narrow, risk-adverse view of the world. I see signs that this is changing.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course in terms of new technology and new businesses.

    Pros

Former president and CEO is gone! Much better outlook for the company now, and employees are relieved and excited. He took the company down the wrong path while doing nothing most of the time other than networking for his next job.

    Cons

Ownership can be difficult in that they don't know what they want from the company.
