I have been working at Milgard Manufacturing full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a number of great people that work for Milgard. Some of those great people are quite talented at certain things and can teach you a lot if you are willing to learn. I've learned that sometimes it is best to spend 90% of the time listening and 10% of the time asking questions. When at first you disagree with what you hear, take the time to see if there truly is a method to the madness.

    Cons

The absolute biggest con of working for Milgard is the concept of accountability. Milgard recently went from the old Milgard Philosophy to a new "cultural beliefs" and then again to a new "Milgard Core Values." Many employees are hesitant to embrace these as the question in their minds is, "Will this change again." I personally believe that they've settled on something given the new (interim) president and the heavier hand of Masco influence. I'm hoping that 6 months from now, what I now call a "con" will no longer be such.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the employees. Hold people accountable (per the Webster's definition of accountability versus some consultant who wrote a book). Remind plant leadership that they cannot lead from behind a computer screen (though I believe they've already purged the company of those people).

    Milgard Manufacturing Response

    Mar 6, 2017 – HR Generalist

I worked at Milgard Manufacturing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Insurance and other benefits are good in comparison with the building materials industry. Milgard enjoys great long-standing relationships with their customers.

    Cons

Milgard is in the midst of a culture change from a decentralized management structure to a central corporate structure. As a result, they are losing the feeling of family and loyalty

    Advice to Management

Change the processes that need changing. Don't neglect the relationships that made Milgard an industry leader and a great company.
