I have been working at Milgard Manufacturing (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good team building environment. Advancement and continued education are encouraged. Policies are clearly defined. Quarterly reviews with continuous improvement as a key.

    Cons

Since the sale to Masco it has lost focus and is being managed poorly. Unrealistic project timelines.. Lack of respect for individuals and family time.

    Advice to Management

Go back to what works. Develop your employees, build them, nurture them, respect them. "The greatest asset of a company are it's employees."

I worked at Milgard Manufacturing full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great hours, close to home, friendly environment. Good benefits and always learned something new each day.

    Cons

Horrible management. Started out great then a new manager was hired and my supervisor was terminated and lead demoted. Forced to work 10 hour days, not allowed to take bathroom breaks unless on break. Micromanaged to death. Forced to use scripts which are not necessary in this type of business. Also, dealer request were horribly mis-managed causing the staff to work 10 hour days. As a result, the dealer requests took presidence over our orders and always behind on work. Our manager always threatened us with a writeup if dealer requests were not completed. Me and several other employees went to HR andno action was taken.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect and dignity.

I worked at Milgard Manufacturing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good entry level experience if you don't mind rude, unhelpful management. Expect to be shoved in with no training, they took out the training classes they once had, and expected to survive with no support from leadership.

    Cons

Everything else. Toxic work environment. Milgard Aurora, not speaking of other locations, has sub par leadership, including senior staff. Milgard will dump a tremendous amount of responsibility on you and watch (not help) you deteriorate. I will not and do not recommend this position if you are a hard worker, quick learner, or in any way sane.

    Advice to Management

Get off your behinds and look at how the majority of the employees are overworked, stressed, and all around NOT HAPPY with their job, because that's what Milgard is, a job, not a career.

    Pros

Milgard has some really fantastic employees and produces a decent product. Though they do not pay "top" dollar, it is better than many others.

    Cons

The employees are treated like slave labor. Sure, there is plenty of overtime, but that pales considerably when you are trading time with your family. 17 hour days are not uncommon and though they talk a great game when it comes to improvements, they seldom materialize. Som e changes do get implemented, but only to revert backwards after a short period of time.

    Advice to Management

Spend the money required to bring you manufacturing process up to date and stop trying to nickel and dime everything for minor, immeasurable changes.

I worked at Milgard Manufacturing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The local management teams were good to work with on a daily basis. There was a fair amount of freedom to make decisions.

    Cons

The corporate leaders are arrogant and more interested in taking care of their own interests than those of the company. There is a underlying prejudice against those that don't belong to certain groups.

    Advice to Management

Check the egos at the door and let employees grow. Focus more on the positives.

    Pros

Great on-the-job training and great pay with all of the mandatory overtime. Co-workers seem basically nice and courteous.

    Cons

You might have to "fit in" on more of a personal basis. They can invent reasons to get rid of people, so you can be let go arbitrarily - that is unfairly. They can decide that you're not doing a decent job even if you really are. Your co-workers will seem nice, but you never know if or when they might complain behind your back.

    Advice to Management

Don't let leads discipline workers without checking all their facts first. Discipline workers only on a factual, as-needed basis. People should be able to keep their jobs if they're doing the best they can and not drastically late for work.
