I worked at Mindray as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Many different medical devices with an international presence. Personal growth with regard to FDA experience.

    Cons

Very little company pride or cohesiveness. I never felt as if I was a wanted or necessary member of the organization in my time at MIndray. Virtually all proceedings must go through the headquarters in China, making for various obstacles such as time and language barriers.

    Advice to Management

Create a better, more friendly company environment.

    I worked at Mindray full-time

    Pros

Many hardworking people and good benefits.

    Cons

Although there are new programs in place to encourage new ideas, there are managers that have been there for a lifetime that stifle creativity and inclusion. No room for growth.

    Cons

Poor Management, Limited Resources, Direct Presence (N/A) , Distribution driven only. Lean on multiple things role which reduces your efficiency.

I worked at Mindray full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fascinating insight into workings of Chinese company. Looks good on resume. Chinese employees with USA college degrees well respected. Cheng Minghe is exceptionally knowledgeable. Liu Jie is also a good leader, but he's overworked, given all blame, and is now out.

    Cons

Inexperienced, totally unqualified, incompetent Chinese employees, especially with USA college degrees, are assumed to be more suitable as decision-makers than highly qualified non-Chinese. Provably incorrect Chinese advice almost always trusted more than experience-based non-Chinese advice, except if from expensive outside consultants. Mindray has eliminated almost all non-Chinese R&D personnel, including cutting hundreds of USA R&D after acquiring Datascope. R&D therefore now focuses mostly on figuring our ways to copy Western competitors' products without violating patents. Credit always goes up; blame always goes down, so if a product doesn't sell well, it must be sales person's fault. Also leads to frequent replacement of R&D head, or R&D restructuring. The CEO will never change a clearly stupid decision because that would be admitting error, which, by definition, is impossible. International focus and sophistication severely lessened when CEO Xu Hang left. CEO Li prefers to focus on small, domestic, Chinese problems and competitors he understands rather than big, more dangerous non-Chinese problems and competitors he doesn't.

    Advice to Management

Let somebody with clear international vision and experience run the company, or flatly admit to investors that Mindray is not going to be expanding in non-Chinese markets but rather will continue to rely on Chinese government tenders.

    Pros

Great place to start medical sales career. Good, solid training program, nice benefits, and decent territory layouts. Employees are given good opportunity to make decent money.

    Cons

Mirco-management! Seasoned reps need not apply. Quotas will be set well above attainable, and number one priority is where is the next deal. It is very difficult to properly build long term relationships with customers, because you will get a call everyday to see where you are and when you are bringing in the next deal.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating reps like they are entry level. You hire high quality, talented people, treat them accordingly. Your turnover will go WAY down.
