I worked at Mintz Group as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

-Learned about a new industry or subject matter constantly
-Great place for anyone who is naturally curious
-Gained great experience in research and database usage
-Treated well by management and staff who were always very helpful with their critiques
    -Supplied lunch on Fridays
    -Good Intern Pay
    -Friendly office culture

    Cons

-Work Can be tedious (you have to dig through a lot of dung to find a little bit of gold)
-Did not receive much direction in my work. Maybe due to the nature of the field, was expected to find my own way for many projects. This was helpful in the long term
-Seemed to have a high turnover rate, but that may have just been people who were truly passionate about investigations/naturally curious
-Sometimes you're extremely busy, sometimes bored out of your mind. That seems to just be the nature of the work.

    Advice to Management

Engage more with interns, e.g. create some sort of development plan. I learned a lot, but not much of it was guided. This made me feel like I was being thrown in the deep end without being taught how to swim.

I have been working at Mintz Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very competent and skilled workforce. The management will provide you with all the tools and databases necessary to perform the job, IT is very good and responsive. Good perks at work: Good salary and healthcare plan and relatively generous vacation time.

    Cons

As a new member you may lack enough training, so you will have to learn a lot on your own. Due to the horizontal structure of the firm, the distribution of work is disorganized and driven by senior partner's needs which often result inefficient allocation of work and urgent deadlines. You are often expected to work a lot of hours including weekends. Many of the investigators seem to burn out quickly.

    Advice to Management

Create a team lead or head of research role that can act as a filter between partners / business developers in order to be able to distribute the work more efficiently and continue training the staff. A senior editor dedicated to ensure the quality of work from all projects would probably be a good idea as the process of peer review is not always smooth if the reviewer is under tight deadlines.

I worked at Mintz Group (More than a year)

    Pros

You are introduced to the industry's entry level experience (researching, investigating, use of industry standard investigatory software applications).

    Cons

-Unfortunately, “entry level” is the most you’ll get from them and you can’t advance any more than that at the speed you probably want to.
    -No/slow career progression
-Stressful with an unrealistic work expectation
-Small and ridiculous pay (later interviewers laughed and actually felt sorry for me when they learned how little I made here)
-No teamwork/team building related activities. Everything is on your own!
-They’re not willing to invest in employees.
    -No plans of employee retention.
-Work is trivial (Investigators are not really “investigating” as they call it. They’re just taking one information from one database and "dumbing it down" so clients can understand)
-Education, background and language skills are not valued. If you come with lots of experience, or a second degree, that will probably be ignored.
-And if you're not the majority, then good luck because you're not going anywhere but down.

    Advice to Management

What "management"? They don't value the employees, just the work that comes from them.

I have been working at Mintz Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work itself is interesting and the management is very experienced and easy to work with. The compensation is good for entry-level graduates.

    Cons

The size of the company gives fewer opportunities for the employees to grow professionally.

I worked at Mintz Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Occasionally interesting, high-profile cases; great place to further develop research skills; interesting management

    Cons

Expectations are rarely communicated and always passive aggressively; high turnover; compensation not in line with work expectations; awkward culture that is part corporate-part wannabe startup

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees; burning them out and hiring new people constantly is not a good way to build an organization in the long-term

I have been working at Mintz Group full-time

    Pros

Interesting work, colleagues with diverse professional backgrounds

    Cons

low pay, little room for advancement

    Advice to Management

invest in developing your employees and upping the retention rate. The amount that is spent on training new hires because entry level people leave after a few years is far too high - it would be more worth your time to compensate and train the employees you already have such that they feel it is actually advantageous to their career to stick around (in many cases this isn't currently true.)
