I worked at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - You can move up quickly if you become a managers favorite and partake in gossiping about your peers and ignore harassment
    - Pay is good if you get into the right position
    - Looks good on a resume
    - Co workers are fun and usually pretty professional
    - FREE food
    - Good Seasonal Positions
    - Everybody is willing to help for the most part
    -

    Cons

    - Harassment is tolerated and if you report that you are being harassed you will be interrogated as if you are the one whom did the harassing and they will tell different department managers of your report even though you are told your report will be confidential
    - There's a 98% chance you will catch your manager talking inappropriately about you or a co worker
    - Most departments are understaffed so you will be forced to work full time hours without the full time pay and benefits (applies to part time associates)
    - Owners are horrible. They will come in and start snapping at employees or just being flat out rude and stuck up. They act as if they are the queen and king of England and its quite embarrassing for them
    - You have to pay for parking, if not you just have to find street parking everyday and pay the meter

    Advice to Management

You have created a very uncomfortable and stressful culture at the mission inn hotel and spa. It starts at the top. Ownership treats their executives very poorly from what I have been told by a few of them, they then treat their managers the same way, causing the managers to treat staff horribly. I have had many clients inform me that this hotel has the highest turn over rate they have ever seen and they cant help but wonder why mission inn employees leave as soon as they start.

I worked at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced, & meet a lot of new people

    Cons

You get yelled at by guests for silly little things, rooms aren't clean on time, management at the desk sucks, they don't work with your schedule at all, and no other department cares about front desk unless you mess up.

    Advice to Management

Communicate, work with employee schedules, and GM needs to show appreciation for this department.

I worked at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome place to work. Lots of opportunity to grow. Cool experience working in a historic hotel, lots of people come from around the world to visit, so interacting with guests is fun and you build great relationships.

    Cons

If you can't handle fast paced and high volume environments, you might not be able to keep up with the rush of the crowd, especially during the Festival of Lights.
    Also, management is constantly changing.

I have been working at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They will work with your school or home schedule. Busy year around.

    Cons

Hard to get hired for a regular position.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employee use of outlets. By allowing employees to enjoy the outlets on property on their day off, fosters interaction between departments, and also provides more knowledge for the employee to pass on to their guests.

I worked at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful surroundings, gorgeous spa facilities very posh, great pay it was $10 an hour + 18% comission on every service + tips, very busy consistently for massage, not sure about insurance and benefits because I wasn't full time but I know they had them, tons of different guests and co workers, nice employee free lunc and usually consisting of really good food and many fancy extras like desserts from the kitchen

    Cons

Working holidays and weekends because it's a hotel open 365 days a year.

I worked at Mission Inn Hotel & Spa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

friendly staff; room for growth; great learning experience working within the hospitality field and public; historical location to learn and share history with guests

    Cons

too much drama; too much of a "high school" background, since half of the employees are 30 or below; management has a hard time listening to the employees that are actually doing their job and instead gives more of a benefit to those who refuse work; room for growth is there, but not enough learning experiences in other departments to be able to move up.

    Advice to Management

It is the employees who do not do enough in their positions that somehow move up, when others who do three times as much get left behind. I still cannot understand how that is fair for anyone who walks through the door, ready to give their all, only to be turned down in the end. The office politics needs to be eliminated.

    Pros

Getting hired was fast and easy, compared to other companies, which was nice! There are free food and drink in the employee only cafeteria. In most cases, one can get promoted or transferred to a different department if requested (but not in every case that deserves it.)

    Cons

Unorganized. Some departments don't train new employees. They just drop them in there and expect them to pick everything up their first few days. I don't feel like they do not resolve work related issues very well. They do not promote from within the company as much as they like to boast. Lastly, I have witnessed (and experienced SUBTLE) racial and sexist discrimination while working here.

    Advice to Management

Most of the management is great, except for those who choose to be unprofessional (gossiping with employees, not being able to control emotions, etc.) And letting your employees know that you appreciate them goes a long way.
