I have been working at Missouri Department of Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits seem nice along with paid holidays and overtime. I don't know what else to type here since I just started.

    Cons

Lower pay than average for engineering field. Again I just started so don't know what else I should add. La

I worked at Missouri Department of Transportation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They have strong established processes, decent benefits, and it offers most for civil engineers.

    Cons

The salaries are low, it's dangerous work if you are in highway maintenance, but it's their lack of addressing poor administration management that forced me to find another employer.

    Advice to Management

If you have a department with high turnover and/or grievances, address it and get rid of toxic managers.

You gain good experience that will prepare you for the Professional Engineer exam. Lots of time off and a good work/life balance.

    Cons

Pay. Clueless management. Promotions are not given based on merit.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees what they're really worth.

    Pros

I enjoyed my brief stint with MoDOT. The environment was friendly and the work wasn't particularly difficult. They had a lot of opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

The pay was quite poor. I considered and was encouraged to apply for a permanent position, but found the income insufficient for my needs and chose other opportunities.

    Pros

They give you plenty of annual leave, sick leave and comp time for time off. Getting them to get it to you is another story though.

    Cons

Thw equipment they use is a total disaster, it never works. Some of the people you work with aren't the nicest either, but that comes with the construction territory.

    Advice to Management

You need to update your equipment more often, especially the lawn equipment. Training needs improving, especially with tma trucks. Employee retention needs to improve.

    Pros

Great municipality to work for, good benefits and very flexible with hours.
Co-workers are friendly and great to work with. Very low career stress and will help train you.

    Cons

Pay is reasonable but not great, advancement opportunities are there but doesn't increase in pay very much, maybe 8% every two years.

    Advice to Management

Try to rework budget to increase employee pay and benefits. MODOT is 7th highest in roadway quality but 47th in pay. The pay needs to reflect to quality of work being done.

    Cons

    Diversity is misused
Dead end because there is no where to go even it you are in a click

    Advice to Management

Levels of pay for levels of work, extra pay for education; your long term employees need motivation to better them selves.
