I have been working at Mitchell 1 full-time for less than a year

    Pros

This is a well known, long standing company with a good reputation and strategic partnership with Snap-on. I start at 6 am and am off at 2:30 Mon-Fri. The hourly rate is nice but the commission opportunities are what I get excited about. Their are new contests all the time. The SDs (Kiran & Robert) are very knowledgeable and hard workers. They have completely different styles and strenths but are a great team.... First job that I don't have to take home with me. I can learn and grow as fast I push myself. I love that I am not micromanaged. If I need help I ask but otherwise i am on my own and full speed ahead. Nick is a great encouraging Leader who holds us accountable but also cheers us on.

    Cons

As the sales team grows we will be needing more SDs. Regularly scheduled training would be helpful.

    Advice to Management

I would like to have sit down time with senior sales force to hear some of their overcoming objections and role playing.

    Pros

Solid company 100+ years and nice coworkers. The initial training was great done by Robert.

    Cons

Where to start, this company is very behind for being a software tech company. The company seems very complacent as they are the market leader, while competitors are greatly improving and innovating. This is cold calling with a twist. It is cold calling to the definition that they are not warm leads. The twist is that the leads get called every 2 weeks like clockwork. As soon as you introduce yourself and mention... Mitchell 1, you will get hung up on. The lead pool is getting smaller as many of the shops have caller ID and block our calls so the dialer just skips over. Management does not allow you to prospect on your own to find quality leads. Sales targets are unrealistic. There are 3 maybe 4 veteran reps also doing outbound calls, they continuously hit target. This is by design as they are handed lists with warm leads or specialty campaigns. This Is proven as everyday you receive a summary of the previous days call log. The 3-4 reps that hit target only do 30-40 outbound calls none from the dialer and average 2-3 hours talk time. The rest of outbound take 200-300 dialer calls a day and only connect to 50-60% of them. Commission is a 3 month rolling average and helps if you are above target but hurts if you are below. There are also charge backs which can be from numerous reasons. After 2 months of successful payments the company should be held liable for keeping the customers and maintaining their satisfaction. Management seems to be in a fantasy world and do not have a realistic view. The company has not hit it’s sales target as a whole each quarter this year. Sales reps are jumping ship like crazy, went from a sales team of almost 50, now down to a team of 28. A lot has to do with a particular SD who is very condescending and defensive.

    Advice to Management

Invest in getting new leads. Allow employees to give input anonymously on ways to help improve the sales process. Allow reps to prospect maybe 1 hour a day to find quality leads. The 3-4 veteran reps should be held to a higher target as they have better leads. Restructure commission so you earn based off monthly sales not rolling 3 month average. Increase the $16 base to be more competitive with the thriving San... Diego sales market.

    Pros

GOOD HOURS for the PAY - the only sales job I’ve ever had that you could make decent money without working long hours, weekends or holidays. Mix of guaranteed hourly, high-potential commissions and sporadic contest spiffs. CARING MANAGEMENT - The “Sales Developer ” team in particular (my immediate report-to’s) work hard to support our success. I’ve personally experienced Kiran, Robert & Dana (as well as... previous SD’s Kevin & Adam) putting their time and effort to help me, including lobbying on my behalf with higher-up’s. They act like their success is truly reliant on mine, and perhaps it is. GREAT PRDUCT LINE - to me, this is everything in sales. We have the best products in our market, hands down. The company is the most-established (over 100 years!), best financed (jointly owned by Snap-On Tools and Napa Auto Parts), and has a development culture built on Rapid Continuous Innovation (participating in “RCI”s are even a mandatory requirement of all employees). Nothing gives a sales guy like me more confidence than having great stuff to sell. GOOD BENE’s - Bad news is everyone starts as a temp with no bene’s. Good news is once hired as a full-time employee there’s top tier benefits: health, dental, flex plan, matching 401(k).. The whole shebang. If I knew of a better place, I’d be applying there.

    Cons

NOT good for entry-level sales. Training focus is on product and market.. how to sell?, not so much. I’ve seen a ton of newer and lesser-skilled sales people come and go. Your basic Corporate stuff. May be good for a corporation, but definitely IS a corporation, with all the expected bureaucracy, chain-of-command and “compliancies” you’d expect.

    Advice to Management

Less focus on what “the department” needs to do, and more on how to meet our individual objectives.

    Pros

Great training, with a quick start for learning. Follow up courses really get your sales going. Inside sales means reaching lots of customers fast without driving all over the place. One can make real money if you set your mind to it. Managers Nick , Kiran, and Robert have a mix of drive and instruction to help you anytime. An open door policy is refreshing. One of the oldest companies in the area: 100... years! Since 1918 headquartered in Poway owned by Snap-On, a publicly traded company.

    Cons

It is an established company and has every angle covered with answers that are almost a given by management. Coming from Tesla it is refreshing but a bit harder to advance because of the depth of knowledge from the pros on the sales floor. Almost too great a challenge with vast information on the software in the beginning. One have to focus intensely on quality business to keep from getting cancellations.

    Advice to Management

More courses on the competition and knowledge based selling. Go to IOT and blockchain software.

    Pros

Working in Inside Sales allows for a stimulating sales environment with huge income potential. There are no commission caps and you can earn six figures while working a standard 40 hour week. The management is supportive and cares about your success.

    Cons

They need a CRM system and a stronger training program.

    Advice to Management

Work on getting a CRM system. Make sure you are listening to the group and making improvements based on our feedback.

I have been working at Mitchell 1 full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mitchell1 is a great company to work for. I have been with them for more than 2 years in inside sales and there is opportunity to make good money. The products they sell are industry standards which helps during the sales cycle. One thing I was looking for was a stable company to call home and I can say I have found it in Mitchell1. The hours are great so there is a good work/life balance. Management is energetic... and want to genuinely help you.

    Cons

Their inside sales dept has grown within the last 2 years so there are some growing pains. Things can seem overwhelming at first however with time you get used to the sales cycle and products.

I worked at Mitchell 1 full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Coworkers were pretty friendly and helpful and management was decent. Good product overall that they sell. It appeared you can make good money there if you can sustain your success month over month. However at least half the sales floor was not meeting quota.

    Cons

No CRM system to track your customers, which is absurd for a call center this big. You make 100-200 calls a day and all of them blind. You can't see any notes on an accounts until the call connects. Horrible database that can't separate current customers from prospects, nor do they update bad numbers or contacts or even allow you to do it. I called multiple deceased former owners at auto shops(some had passed years... ago) a week. Many other calls were to current customers wondering why I was calling them. Very little training at all too. I started on the phones the very first day after a couple hours of training, which is a huge red flag. Why would you want someone with very little knowledge of your company or products representing you immediately on the phones? They also have a chargeback system that allows the company to hedge their bets on you. If the customer cancels service during the first 30 days, you are charged back the full sale amount. To take that a step further, if the customer cancels in the 11th month of a 12 month contract you are charged back the full amount, no proration. Numerous sales reps had negative sales revenue numbers for most of the time I worked there. Basically you have to sell twice as much software on your monthly quota to earn the same commission amount every month. Product cancellations appear to be around 40% every month. Worst call center I have ever worked at.
