Pros

Interesting projects, strong design quality, great firm staff culture, reasonable comp time policy for overtime, very good continuing education program, beautiful waterfront location, sustainable practices, incorporates research and case studies in work, open to innovative ideas, interdisciplinary design approach is exciting

Cons

Top heavy, favoritism, lack of transparency, lacks diversity / equitable opportunity, big egos, reputation supersedes experience, policies doesn't align with advocated practice (lacks integrity), different principals have very different values/approaches making it nearly impossible for staff to be successful, very demanding project schedules and clients

Pros

1. Free benefits? (Healthcare, life insurance, good 401k match?) Although a lot of larger firms provide this. 2. SOME really awesome people.

Cons

1. Very low salary - even as a promoted individual at the firm. Lots of excuses why they don't pay well. Ultimately, laid a bunch of people off in December and then handed out Christmas bonuses a couple weeks later... 2. Tokenize BIPOC. Can't mentor BIPOC. BIPOC quitting after being there only a couple of months. Add some sexism in there too. Old men saying very inappropriate things. 3. Doesn't like critism. Don't complain about the issues at the firm or set boundaries in your life because it is not well recieved. Don't ask for help or support because they will fail to help. 4. Extremely unorganized. Leaders are not good at project planning. Some are so scattered and confused. Every project has a different organization based on the team's experience. Revit is a mess on most projects. 5. Lack of mentorship. Hire lots of people out of school and just throw them in the pond and hope they swim. Poor choices selected for mentorship committee. 6. Unclear what gets you promoted. They sent out an email with random adjectives, but not actionable items. Ultimately they don't know who is keeping the projects afloat and doing the work. 7. Landscape designers and interior designers are treated lower than architects. Expect to wait longer for promotions or recognition. 8. Too many partners and no one actually leading. 9. Mantra is "Design for Positive Change" and they are a "leading sustainability firm", yet take projects from clients who are unethical or non-sustainable.

Quick Decline in Culture

Pros

Amazing workplace. Probably no better building to work at in Seattle. Pier 56 on Elliot Bay. Casual work environment. Nice coworkers. AMAZING view.

Cons

Senior staff at the board level are very secretive, non-sharing, and seemingly disinterested in the daily activities of the people at the firm. Trust is a big issue. The company is vastly different than it was 10 years ago when the culture was unbeatable. Much of that legacy is now gone, and it has become just another money-making machine.
