Good place to gain experience, cover 4 counties with a good split of 911 & IFT, both BLS & ALS units are 911/transport

    Pros

Busy system, ability to pick up overtime or have a shift in any of the 4 counties, & work a lot if you so desire. Pay is ok after a while but OT makes up for it, built in 8 hours of OT due to 48 hour base schedule weekly. Calls can vary from inner-city to mutual aid into the rural or suburban areas/villages. Benefits are decent, more so for single people. Any class that they offer for training is free to employees, even ALS classes if EMTs wish to take them. You will end up knowing every eventually, 400+ people but mostly everyone knows each other. Each coverage area has a station with Wi-Fi, computers, all main stations have kitchens, garages/ crew room areas. 401k match to 3%.

    Cons

Can potentially relocate a lot due to system status(I.e. if one area gets busy and those units are tied up or on a transport, they pull a free unit to relocate to those coverage areas for a certain amount of time or if one area is understaffed), Can have some usual commercial EMS issues( drama, some stations can be cliquey but isn't terrible, issues with some bosses), can be be busy & on the move especially at night or weekends with staffing issues which lead to morale issues sometimes.

Don't do it. It used to be good but now it's circling the drain & terrible

    Pros

Holiday food given to people working. Equipment isn't in bad shape. Trucks aren't in terrible shape.

    Cons

Main stations aren't too bad, substations are horrible (well that's if you even see them once you clock in for your shift). Management doesn't really care about their staff. They say they do but they don't. The CEO is a joke. The owner doesn't have a clue that her business is going down the tubes. There's more people leaving than staying. Lots of relocations, unless you're one of the "favored" ones by the dispatchers. Supervisors are a joke. It's not a happy place to work, even though they try to convince the newer employees of that. The benefits used to be good, now they're just as bad as all the others. If you want insurance for your family, just hand your paycheck over.

Management is the equivalent to a frat party.

    Pros

Plenty of overtime, equipment works most of the time.

    Cons

Multiple occurrences of sexual harrassment by management upon staff that management just covers up when reported and the administration is completely detached from the road staff. They have a large number of supervisors, directors, etc with zero education on how to manage staff. Run as far away from this place as you can and DO NOT allow your daughter or son to work here.

Not a bad place to work

Jul 26, 2017 - Paramedic in Newburgh, NY

    Pros

They offer decent pay, and the insurance is pretty incredible, with minimal cost to the employee. The equipment and ambulances are nice for the most part; the company purchases nice equipment, but it isn't always treated nicely by the field staff, however the effort to provide good equipment is there on the company's part. The ambulances are replaced regularly with brand new units, and they're maintained decently well, although there are a few ambulances that are a bit of an embarrassment. Overtime is plentiful, and the scheduler was easy to work with when time off was needed. They offer a variety of shifts, and it seems as though they offer a decent work/life balance.

    Cons

When speaking with the older employees, it seems that they have gone downhill a bit as an agency. Senior management seems to be interested in battling each other to make a point, and sometimes it causes poor decisions to be made. Crews can be worked over on shift, depending on the staffing levels that day. Interfacility transfers seem to take priority, and 911 response times often fall by the wayside.
