    Pros

Great support network. Friendly and helpful (most of the time) home office staff. Great benefits.

    Cons

Pay was just adequate. Very little flexibility.

    Advice to Management

Support your outside admin staff as strongly as you do your Regional Directors.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is great leadership in the company, but specifically at the Indiana Firm. Training of new advisors is very much 1 on 1. They only hire a select few financial advisors each year, this allows them to commit the necessary resources to ensure that each new hire is successful.
Compensation is healthy. You truly in charge of your own business and given plenty of flexibility. Many of the best products in the industry.

    Cons

If you do not have an entrepreneurial and philanthropic heart, Modern Woodmen is not for you. If you don't want to be in control of your income and independence, Modern Woodmen is not right for you.

    Advice to Management

Continue to only hire a few people each year. Continue the high level of support that you provide.

    Pros

Flexible training schedules focusing on the life insurance industry. Amazing culture mix of philanthropy and business like ventures. Focused highly on prospecting and sales.

    Cons

Strictly commission based and no real structure to your overall workdays.

    Advice to Management

Make sure future employees realize how heavily sales based your organization is and add some more structure where you can.

I have been working at Modern Woodmen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

MWA sincerely cares about their employees as much as they do their members. It is very much a family atmosphere even though it is a large organization. Servant leadership just isn't a thing, it is engrained in the culture and a part of everyday life.

    Cons

It is still a conservative financial institution and it has it's quirks, i.e. dress code, breaks, rules. However, things are changing and a breath of fresh air is emerging.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget who we are and what we stand for.

I worked at Modern Woodmen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company if your not in IT

    Cons

Trying to move too much too fast. Take and use bad advise from consultants.
Best qualified applicants don't get promoted.
Consultants and third party vendors run Modern Woodmen.
    I could go on...

    Advice to Management

Slow down and start listening to the professional technical people you've hired instead of the money grubbing consultants.

    Pros

Good company values, good career path if you survive commission sales. You get a chance to impact your community and peoples lives. I got to start 2 fraternal chapters and give back to people through matching funds and other charitable events.

    Cons

Management will lie to you to get you on the hook and sell to your friends and family. I was personally lied to about how they would provide leads and help me build a business but at the end of the day they push you to sell insurance to friends and family.

End the end, I learned a lot from the sales experience but I would have been better off staying waiting tables out of school instead of taking this job for the experience.

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the job as a financial advisor and commission sales jobs.

    Pros

-Unlimited amount of opportunity to earn money
-Excellent training program to prepare yourself to be on your own
-Great office environment and everyone is willing to help you succeed
    -Make your own schedule

    Cons

-No base pay so income fluctuates
-Money you earn can be lost due to clients being declined or deciding to not go through with their plan
-If you aren't on top of things your business will get behind and you will be unsuccessful
-Not being local to the office can hurt you because you are not around everyone and learning daily

    Advice to Management

I think management is doing a great job. They tell it to you straight and don't sugarcoat anything. They are very supportive and are willing to do anything they can to help you.
