I worked at Modesto City Schools part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many dedicated and helpful teachers in this district. The salary scale is great compared to other districts. Competent administrators; very nice facilities at some of the high schools.

    Cons

Some zoning problems with a couple schools getting more overachieving students than the rest. These schools also tend to also have the best facilities for students and teachers.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is comparable to other teaching positions in the area.

    Cons

One of their three C's stands for Communication, but the communication there is only from the top down. Teachers are often hand picked for leadership roles and the administration already has an agenda for what they want to happen - regardless of teacher input. Teachers there are on the verge of a strike at the moment.

    Advice to Management

Treat the teachers with respect and as professionals, rather than looking down on them.

    Pros

Pay is fine, and the work isn't too difficult.

    Cons

Some classes can be challenging and there isn't much support. Some schools are more welcoming than others, too. Not much skill-building though for the position.

    Advice to Management

Provide more welcoming and gainful opportunities for substitute teachers.

I worked at Modesto City Schools full-time

    Pros

    Decent Salary for the area.
    Set work hours.
Usually had a lot to do.

    Cons

Benefit cost was far too high and the quality wasn't there.
    Too routine.
Too much inter-office politics and games played.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees room to grow. Don't play games with people and own up to your decisions!

I have been working at Modesto City Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Love the kids
Holidays off, weekends off, Spring Break, Summer Vacation

    Cons

Health Insurance takes a third of your paycheck
Not enough money to live off of
Union allows many bad employees to continue working without consequence

I worked at Modesto City Schools (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, higher than pretty much any other public school system that I know of. Website is easy to navigate.

    Cons

They employ a LOT of subs, so work can be a bit intermittent. No district wide parking pass, so you have to get individual passes from each school, which is a bit much.

    Advice to Management

A district wide employee badge and parking pass would be very helpful -- would make sign-in much more seamless.
