I worked at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was all about my team. I had a super high functioning team. If you get a good team, you can avoid the overwhelming political bologna. Often, you will see people who shouldn't be promoted (underqualified), promoted to very high paying jobs. HR can be a bit of a shark-nado, but that seems to be a common trend in HR.

    Cons

The CIO at the time was a total toolbox; an Apple bro who wanted to "i-ify" everything. Thankfully, he has since been canned.

    Advice to Management

Let your teams grow organically. Don't hire people who "...only program in Java so Imma need to re-write everything" despite the fact that everything is working 100% as it currently exists.

  2. "Generally a good place to work, but can be slow moving and bureaucratic."

I worked at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stable union position, with great benefits, decent pension, education benefits, fair working hours no excessive overtime, extra week of over Christmas. Nice modernized campus.

    Cons

Employer can be frustratingly slow moving and bureaucratic, probably many educational institutions are like this, but compared to private industry this can be quite frustrating. Suburban campus is modern, and has been nicely updated, but is a bit of a commute if you use transit, and far from good restaurants etc. for lunch, you'll have to brown bag it or eat at the campus cafeterias.

    Advice to Management

Focus on innovation, and slashing red tape! Mohawk is a pretty good place to work, but could be fantastic ... if the same effort in modernizing the campus buildings also was put into bringing management practices into the modern era.

I have been working at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology full-time

    Pros

Mohawk invests in it's employees by offering discounted classes/courses. Oh and good pay for not doing alot of work... (FOR SOME)

    Cons

Senior Management doesn't really care too much about the low man on the totem pole. Too much transition... and not in a good way.

    Advice to Management

Show employees that their opinions matter. Instead of just saying it, show it.

I have been working at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexibility
    Student support
    Salary is ok

    Cons

    Poor leadership
Promoting the weakest faculty with poor histories
Support staff is overtaking faculty - leading to very very poor quality decisions about academic programs
Money money money is the focus
Not allowed to ask questions of management

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to the leaders you are selecting and promoting
Quality news to be the focus
Instead of asking faculty to constantly be more innovative with new students management needs to be more innovative with generating funds
More kindness needed from leaders - more open communication
Run by individuals who want power instead of caring about creating great things
