I worked at Mohler, Nixon & Williams full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very interesting and diverse client base, especially in regards to to growing tech companies and high-net-worth individuals. Lots of work to do so you can learn fast......and oh yeah, one of the few accounting firms I know of that pays overtime, pretty great perk for starting staff working long hours.

    Cons

Often eventually lose the best (corporate) clients to bigger firms, little opportunity for more consultative work.

    Advice to Management

Deligate more responsability to seniors, seniors deligate more small tasks to staff.

    Pros

I like that many of the partners/staff have Big 4 experience and quality, but the firm is a saner, more pleasant place to work. Definitely better worklife balance. FIrm works with a lot of the high tech companies in Silicon Valley, so that's always interesting and fun.

    Cons

Like someone else mentioned, having a combined PTO and sick days can lead to bad habits - but they give you so many PTO hours its kind of a moot point.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on growing the firm (new markets, new service area, and bettter ways to maximize what we already do).

    Pros

Managers are looking out for their staff and provide feedback timely. Feedback from managers is usually constructive and aimed at correcting performance issues.

    Cons

The partners of the firm cant seem to agree on key decisions. Compensation is weak at best. High performers are rewarded with more work and stressful jobs.

    Advice to Management

Management should work together and provide better compensation to their employees. More aggressive actions should be taken when obvious signs are presented.

    Pros

    1. The vacation offered at Mohler, Nixon & Williams is pretty good
    2. Compensation is generally on the high side, particularly for the bay area
    3. The partners believe in and support a work-life balance
    4. There are several really good people that work here. 5
    5. There's a defined career path similar to Big 4.

    Cons

Some of the people, which would be the case at any company, don't care enough about their jobs to really do stellar work. People should care more about quality in their work.

    Advice to Management

Create more of a tone at the top of excellence. Demand it on every occasion. Consistently high quality work product should be at the core of everything this company does.
