I have been working at Monarch Casino & Resort full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team environment. CEO asks for your input

    Cons

Hard to really take time off, expected to keep up with work while away. Often have to work extra when others take time off, effectively you get little paid time off.

    Advice to Management

Keep your team informed, they have to answer guest questions.

I worked at Monarch Casino & Resort part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are really nice, and the regular guests can be very nice and generous.

    Cons

In the buffet, I trained more than 10 people to be cashiers within a year and some made more than I did. There were about 5 different managers that came and went in the time I was there. Unstable. Transportation was awful too.

I worked at Monarch Casino & Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you need work, and can keep your head down and build up a work history for a year or two to get into something better, go for it. They always need more workers, because so many leave or are fired.

    Cons

When Monarch first took over the Riviera, employees were optimistic, the new owners painted a rosy picture of being part of the best casino in the state, with an arrogant "we're the best thing to happen to this place" attitude. People were excited about the potential, and it made a positive difference in the experience of guests.

When benefits diminished, the health plan got worse and more expensive, and paychecks got smaller, people still toughed it out, and hoped the future would bring a share in the success and profits.

Now over two years later, an atmosphere of fear, distrust and unease is more prevalent among the staff. Promises to employees are often not kept. Good people who had been there for over a decade disappeared suddenly.

As a salaried worker you will have to fill in and work more and harder, because your dept. is perpetually short staffed. Even while HR is offering hiring and referral bonuses. The previous owners didn't have to do that, people wanted to work there.

Communication is one-way, top down, and there is no apparent interest in feedback or input from regular employees. If you happen to be nearby when the owner is on property, you may end up cleaning his shoes for him, as happened to one employee while I was there.

    Fortunately, you have better options.

    Advice to Management

If these people listened to advice, there wouldn't be such a problem. This is not a company that listens to anyone, certainly not mere employees.

    Pros

Good company, descent pay. Extremely detailed oriented.

    Cons

Don't care about the team and management

    Advice to Management

Listen to your middle management. Stop micro-managing. Have more of a presence with the front line team members.
