I worked at Monash University (Less than a year)

    Pros

You can do so many things in the Campus Centre. They have banks, post office, travel agents, etc.
People in the climate group were very friendly.

    Cons

Salary could be better. Usually when they publish jobs they write the number including superannuation, so your actual pay is less that what it looks at first glance.

    Advice to Management

Not really applicable to me. I was working with my PhD supervisor processing data from flux tower stations.

I worked at Monash University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Unpretentious yet high-achieving academic colleagues
Comfortable modern facilities in Faculty of IT
Senior academics generally supportive of career growth for juniors
    Flexible work arrangements
    Open to innovative teaching methods

    Cons

Cynicism and distrust between professional and academic staff
    Increasing weight of bureaucratic micromanagement
    Lack of transparency
Pessimism about the future of universities

    Advice to Management

Universities can prosper in the future, but they need to transform themselves. To survive, you must be willing to invest in experimenting now with radically different educational models, such as MOOCs and gamification. And you must give students a reason to prefer your courses. Make education magical, inspiring and compelling. Hire people who can help you to do this, and give them the freedom and resources to unleash their enthusiasm.

    Pros

Some units are well organised and easy to teach. Marking criteria is well organised and easy to work with. Senior members and unit convenors are supportive and generally easy to communicate with.

    Cons

At times (only occasionally( things are poorly organised making it difficult to teach to the best of your ability and making it difficult for concepts to be conveyed clearly to students.

I worked at Monash University (More than a year)

    Pros

Offers great pay. I was often left to my own devices which led me to have the freedom to do the work as you wish. All that mattered was it got done.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is a nightmare, researchers often do not freely collaborate within a school, can get heaped with teaching duties at no notice.

    Advice to Management

Cut the red tape and realise that the power of this university is in it's academics. Encourage more collaboration within and between schools.

I have been working at Monash University full-time

    Pros

Great place to work overall. Money is also good. Also gives your the chance to learn from highly competent people which is good in the long run.

    Cons

Huge enterprise, as a result there is a bit of bureaucratic non-sense all around, which is understandable enough. But people are really nice and everybody takes there job pretty seriously.

    Advice to Management

Management need to do a bit more for making sure that all employees have a proper work life balance. Also management needs to invest more in peoples skills like organising training workshops.
