I worked at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some decent partners who know their stuff, ability to get a lot of urban EMS experience, almost always overtime available.

    Cons

Overworked, underpaid, some real lazy partners, almost always overrun, up and down the state all shift cause the company covers ~13 counties. Don't dare get injured, the company will instantly try to toss you.

    Advice to Management

Try to retain decent talent, contracted facilities and patients appreciate good people. Work out a system for the growing population of obese patients because 'Just see what you can do' doesn't cut it.

    I worked at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service full-time

    Pros

The supervisors recognize good workers and are friendly and approachable. Most of the employees take pride in their work. The company's headquarters location is well organized.

    Cons

Occasionally, EMTs have to work beyond their scheduled shift, up to four hours if necessary. Low pay to start out. A small few paramedics take their job too seriously and, as a result, they do not take assistance from EMT-Basics; instead, they try to do everything themselves.

    Advice to Management

Please keep better track of unit equipment and maintain the unit equipment better. Employees dread starting a shift with missing laptops/ radios/ phone chargers/ laptop chargers, broken laptop chargers, radio batteries that don't hold a charge, or equipment that is not compatible with other equipment, etc. which became a daily occurrence.

    Pros

One of the larger and well-known EMS companies in NJ. Can transition easily into their medic program. Uniforms look nice. Good health insurance.

    Cons

Low starting salary. Small raises if any. A lot of dissatisfaction with management.

I have been working at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company to take off a career in EMS or healthcare. Above average benefits including PTO and EIT (extended illness time), flexibility with taking time off, management is approachable, no micromanagement, tuition reimbursement (for healthcare careers), 401k. Medical and dental benefits are off the charts.

    Cons

Favoritism from some management. SALARY. RAISES.

I worked at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The management team is interact and supportive from the CEO down. If you are seeking a firm with fine people, skilled and educated professionals who are committed to their mission, care about their clientele and what they are doing day to day, this is the place to work.

    Cons

They might benefit from more emphatic controls and a system of/departmental review of what different departments are doing week to week/month to month with quality control and operational enhancement in mind, including reviewing every 2-4 weeks progress, accomplishments, issues between departments.

    Advice to Management

    Cons

Poor raises, failure to give sufficient information about patient transport

    Advice to Management

Value all your employees not just the Medics

I have been working at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You mainly do hospital discharges, very little dialysis runs. You don't have a supervisor constantly breathing down your neck for the entire shift.

    Cons

The pay is horrible, probably the worst in the state for EMS. Administration does not care for their field employees.

    Advice to Management

Treat the BLS crews with more respect. Remember, they're the consistent money makers for the company. They're the reason why you get your bonus every year even though they don't.

I worked at Monmouth-Ocean Hospital Service full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours and great co workers.

    Cons

Horrible management that micro manages everything. Horrible vehicles to use for patient transport. Management treats you like dirt and will work you like a mule for their sole benefit.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage your company. Go to school and get an education so you can learn how to manage people effectively without threats and disrespect.
