I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good work life balance. People leave by about 5. It's a ghost town by 6.

    Cons

-Healthcare plans are not great. They all have high deductibles - Culture in NYC is atrocious. In Woburn, it feels like a company from 1982. -Stock price continues to fall. -The product team doesn't seem to be in touch with the sales org on what the market actually needs -It seems like each month brings some sort of new cut - be it the snacks (hello vending machine), lay offs, etc.

    Advice to Management

The expectations you've had about growth have been consistently wrong, and yet you continue to make bolder goals, and bigger missteps. Regroup, and make a new plan as the ones you've laid out for the last few years are not working. People are leaving and looking in droves.

I have been working at Monotype

    Pros

If you have any interest in type, it's probably the largest and a legendary company to work at. The company is going through many changes in these few years, I feel like half of the employees left and the new ones came in. (including acquisition)

    Cons

Communication between regions and sections is extremely poor. You feel like you are part of the company, but you feel less that it has to be you. Stock price is getting lower and lower.

    Advice to Management

Attention to improve communication obstacles and awkwardness among regions and sections.

I worked at Monotype full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Most people are great to work with, laid back office environment / casual dress, the font industry itself is genuinely interesting.

    Cons

The company uses stock and benefits as an excuse to pay employees mediocre salaries which is no longer an effective tactic as the stock price has been cut in half in the last 2 years. The HR department is beyond incompetent and painful to work with. Company perks (holiday party) are slowly disappearing. Jobs are being outsourced to India and work quality is suffering as a result.

    Advice to Management

Your vision is worthless if you lack the ability to execute upon it. Focus on maintaining the core business before wasting money on questionable tech startups. Pay top performers well or risk losing them.

I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

-Some departments are really great to work for -Working in a remote office usually means your tight knit with those you work with and has a sort of “small company” feel. -For non-sales there are generally few layoffs. If you work hard and meet your goals you can probably spend your entire life at Monotype. In fact, some have done so.

    Cons

-If you’re in sales your numbers are very aggressive and they regularly fire sales people every year. -Benefits are not that great in the US. Prices for healthcare keep going up. -Many departments are pretty amateur when it comes to doing things well both on the customer facing and employee facing sides of the company. -Senior leadership does not have a great track record for making decisions resulting in a dive... in stock price and a somewhat abysmal outlook for the company. -Company has changed to be almost exclusively money driven. They don’t care about anything except making a buck in order to reach Senior Managements’ poorly thought out vision and to make up for their bad decisions. -Salary increases are slow and if you do upward mobility to management you are likely underpaid because the pay raise is capped and based on your current salary.

    Advice to Management

Start treating employees like family again rather than resources that you can exploit. It says something that your Glassdoor rating is lower than Walmart’s
