I worked at Monotype full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work life balance - people check out by 5pm

    Cons

Upper management is constantly struggling to find the right path forward, and keep employees in the dark which leads to endless rumors and low morale. One of the more moronic managers thought that making cocktails for employees one night would solve the frustrations about low pay, constant restructurings, and concerns about no advancement opportunities. There are no real perks offered to employees.

    Advice to Management

Re-organize the business to focus on what Monotype has traditionally been good at -- quality fonts, while finding a way to evolve with the times instead of overcharging companies for font files when there are increasing amounts of free competitors in the marketplace.

I worked at Monotype full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great work life balance/ get your work done and leave.

    Cons

They hire managers just because the manager has great numbers. A great manager doesn't only have great numbers. They should be a people person, should have a high level of emotional intelligence, should be able to build relationships, and you shouldn't feel stupid to ask a question.

I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good work life balance. People leave by about 5. It's a ghost town by 6.

    Cons

-Healthcare plans are not great. They all have high deductibles - Culture in NYC is atrocious. In Woburn, it feels like a company from 1982. -Stock price continues to fall. -The product team doesn't seem to be in touch with the sales org on what the market actually needs -It seems like each month brings some sort of new cut - be it the snacks (hello vending machine), lay offs, etc.

    Advice to Management

The expectations you've had about growth have been consistently wrong, and yet you continue to make bolder goals, and bigger missteps. Regroup, and make a new plan as the ones you've laid out for the last few years are not working. People are leaving and looking in droves.

I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I've been here for nearly 5 years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time. The company is still growing (especially its enterprise division), has a great culture and you make real impact across the business. The product is sound and market need is high, which makes it an extremely attractive place to work if you're in sales. I've been promoted a number of times and this demonstrates how Monotype nurture, develop and... look after their own. I highly recommend this as a workplace of choice.

    Cons

Not as competitive in salary as other software companies, but its benefits package and work-life balance certainly compensates.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and remember to over-communicate on the company vision.

I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free coffee, fruit, and $0.25 snacks, nice office and campus, outdoor and garage parking.

    Cons

If you value your identity, work/life balance, and sanity, I would highly suggest you choose another company to work for. First moving to identity: You are only as good as the work you do. You are not a person. You are a machine intended to produce. Work/Life balance: There is none unless you negotiate it into your offer or you are working in Sales. You come in when you want, but they pay attention to... every detail about you leaving for the day. This is because the CEO pitched a fit at one point because he was looking for someone that was working from home one day. Completely did away with the policy. Sanity: Open office space is making everyone... miserable. No one wants to feel nervous when they talk to their coworkers for fear of someone overhearing you. If you don’t mind being a number, not having flexibility, and losing your stable mental state, this is the place for you.

I have been working at Monotype full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Fonts are critical to brands worldwide. Monotype has unique offerings and #1 position in the global font market. Work culture in Noida is very good. Noida is core to company's R&D, not just a satellite offshore centre. Work-life balance is a real thing here. Latest tech stack and fast paced adoption of new ideas. Global team works as one. Company is in the process of going private which will accelerate it's... growth.

I worked at Monotype full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work life balance, Opportunities to explore new technologies,

    Cons

Don't be surprise if your appraisal is not as per your expectations. You might see your hard work go in vain at the end of year. Some managers are good in knowing your value to the company and team but some managers can't see you grow and will always rate you average. So it's your luck where you land on good or the bad side.

    Advice to Management

Don't scrap products year on year.Stay with it for more time to see it's success or conclude failure.
