I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are genuinely caring and helpful. Generous vacation policy if you stay with the company for more than a year. Jumping between teams is encouraged.

    Cons

The company has been acquired by Bayer and is also going through a layoff spree (that started before the acquisition). There is a LOT of uncertainty about what would happen later next year. A big internal re-org this year meant all business analysts were turned into either product specialists or software developers (even if they did not having too much experience with core development work). This has affected employee morale badly.

    Advice to Management

Consider taking the help of the employees before deciding on shoving down a senseless re-org down everyone throats especially to teams where it doesn't even make sense.

I have been working at Monsanto Company as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing colleagues with lots of experience who are still willing to explain things to less-senior people. Chance to work with a wide variety of people.

    Cons

Worries about buyout make people nervous about future employment prospects. Overtime must be pre-approved. Tricky to get software access when onboarding.

    Advice to Management

Be more generous in offering direct employee positions. There are many contractors who would love to work directly for the company and who would make loyal employees.

I worked at Monsanto Company (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work life balance is great! If you are able to find the right team and manger, your commitment to family first is supported.

    Cons

No real sincerity or care for the employees professional development and growth. Times are changing. It is not what it used to be.

    Advice to Management

Take into account just how reorgs and layoffs affect people. Reward employees and give them opportunities for growth and advancement. It makes no sense to keep people at the same level for years and make up excuses as to why you aren't able to help them find promotional opportunities.

I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management understands need to transform company to digital age with analytics-based approach to customer offerings. Also a progressive workplace (very!) compared to its online reputation among detractors.

    Cons

Monsanto is highly centralized, and therefore, employees at middle levels of the company can feel like they have little autonomy to make important decision. Additionally the matrix organization requires lots of time seeking buy in, cutting down organizational flexibility and agility.

    Advice to Management

Tell your managers and mid-level execs to empower their employees more. Don't allow strapped budgets to get in the way of important transformations (Commercial, Finance, Supply Chain organizations, etc).

I have been working at Monsanto Company (More than a year)

    Pros

Monsanto is a great place to work. Treat employees as customers and provides almost all requirements they need.

    Cons

The structure of IT deparment is like separate Islands. There are some groups that do not cooperate with others. Sometime you need to dig into data yourself because other groups do not have 5 minutes to provide your required data
