I worked at Monster Worldwide full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, some great people, and a noble purpose.

    Cons

Zero job security, layoffs every few months, nepotism in many departments. Randstad recently purchased Monster and their CEO Linda asked everyone to stay and not look for new jobs because "we need you". A few short months later and hundreds of long time dedicated employees are let go with almost no severance package. That was one thing Monster did right in the past - when they would throw away their employees they would at least take care of them. Randstad changed all of that. Stay away!

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing nepotism. Focus! You shift gears every few months but never seem to be successful. Stop trying to preach innovation when you are essentially playing catchup with competitors the majority of the time.

Maybe consider having a few less Chief positions. It seems that the trend is a few new executives are brought in and within a few weeks there is another mass layoff. Recognize who contributes more in terms of moving the company forward - 1 Chief position or the 200+ non-executives you discard to cover their new salary.

    Pros

Old Monster folks were great! Loved working with them.

    Cons

Randstad is like a rich kid who just got a new toy and does not know what to do with it. Hiring C-suite folks like crazy, and no body knows what they are supposed to be doing. Just went through one round of lay-offs and many more to come. People are leaving like crazy, most of the office space is deserted now.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue, figure out what you plan to do with the company. Laying off people is only going to work for so long. How do you plan to make a profit if you don't have people to do the work? You think the Chiefs and VPs and going to roll up their sleeves and build software?

I worked at Monster Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Technically still a company that pays employees.
Domain name that is probably worth something.
Revenue only declining by 15% YoY so we have years before revenue is zero.
Parent company has deep pockets so maybe they can float us for longer.
All of the old management that tanked the company are gone.
Got time to look for our next job while still getting a paycheck.
    Pay and beni's are ok.

    Cons

The old management team, no experience with the Internet or HR yet made over 100 million collectively and when there was no more money to make they moved on and left us here.
Says the employer is active with this Glassdoor site but yet we still have the old CEO listed who hasn't been the CEO for a year or so.
Also I don't think revenue will be $500M this year but then again they don't really talk to us much so who knows.
As Dr. Peter Venkman said "Human sacrifice (layoffs), dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!"
It's like a horror movie, every time you turn around someone else is gone.

    Advice to Management

Who are you? Where are you? What is the plan?
