I worked at Montana Tech part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Lovely campus and friendly staff

    Cons

Job was quite demanding during end of semester as grades and reports had to be returned to students in a timely manner.

    Advice to Management

More pay for teaching assistants considering the class size

I have been working at Montana Tech part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Gives good work and can even lead to recommendations outside of school from professors.
Relaxed work environment and teamwork is encouraged.
Professors tend to not micromanage students.

    Cons

Pay is Ok for students, really depends on professor and department. School maxes out student pay to 15.25/Hr.
School office faculty can be incompetent at times and lose paychecks.

I have been working at Montana Tech full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The surrounding area has plenty of places to go hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. Everyone is friendly for the most part. No one cares what ethnicity you are which is nice.

    Cons

Management is more concerned about covering up issues than solving them. Long sleeves are seldom wore in labs dealing with chemicals. I only have seen 2 people consistently wear lab coats. They pay is less than what other colleges pay for.

    Advice to Management

If you started paying a decent wage you might be able to hire some talented instructors to teach your classes.

I have been working at Montana Tech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Access to various industry leaders

    Cons

    - Poor professional conduct by personnel
    - Institutional propensity to hire bad professors, favoring their research record over experience
    - Few people make a weekly schedule, fewer stick to it.

    Advice to Management

Learn to critique potential professors on performance, not research pedigree. If people are coming to HR and filing complaints, DO something about the poor performance of faculty, especially tenured staff.

I have been working at Montana Tech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Culture, family/work life, support, benefits

    Cons

Pay scale is minimal. Graduated with a Bachelors and am earning the same wages as someone without a degree. College suggests High ROI but that is for the Petroleum and Engineering students. The business students are lower end.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay depending on training and give opportunities for advancement.
