I have been working at Montefiore Medical full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great hours, independence, weekly clinical supervision, integrative care, very good 1199 benefits including investment in pension after 10 years, comparable salary, dedicated coworkers, annual continuing education budget, wonderful opportunities to impact children & families in school based setting.

    Cons

Many demands on productivity means feeling less able to provide QUALITY care when quantity is often the focus. Barriers on creativity, over focus on evidence based interventions as of late, 0 accountability for personnel problems on the part of administration, no upward mobility, 0 advocacy or support for social workers from some supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Poll staff on their work experiences and be willing to hear uncomfortable feedback. Offer opportunities for growth.

    Cons

i could only say that the union was not what i expected of such a large local #1199 SIEU.

    Advice to Management

I really almost never had any problems with management so i have no advice to share, i feel that they had a job to do and they expedited it well.

I worked at Montefiore Medical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salaries & benefits are good. They serve a very needy population and the work is rewarding.

    Cons

Not sure that senior leadership is qualified to keep up with the growth and changing healthcare agenda.

    Advice to Management

Access to care is an issue that they keep denying, but it's a big problem, mostly in specialty areas. You need to involve your middle management team in your strategic planning and add more women executives.

    Pros

Everyone is driven to giving the best care possible. The atmosphere makes everyone feel that they are a part of the care team. There is a passion and drive that is specific to serving the patient base in the Bronx and beyond.

    Cons

We dont have a cure for cancer. People should consider Montefiore more often. Many people drive past us to head into the City because they think they may receive different or better treatment. That just isn't the case.

    Advice to Management

Bottle what is taking place in the Cancer Center and distribute throughout.

I have been working at Montefiore Medical part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Starting pay is the best I've ever seen. Teaches great skills such as meeting deadlines, time management and communication abilities.

    Cons

Depending on where you are it can be hectic really hectic and their is so much pressure for you to perform it can become overwhelming.

    Advice to Management

Understand your floor as a supervisor and understand a Secretary's responsibilities and respect the fact that it's not easy.

I have been working at Montefiore Medical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Patient care is sometimes very good. When I was hired at Monte, they did have an a very generic on-boarding process for new employees, I did not have to trained on much since I my skill-sets were already transferable. I love what I do but I am grossly under paid for the volume of work I do, therefore, makes my life unbalanced. All of this has been ignored and has fallen on deaf ears. As long as the work gets done the managers do not care.

    Cons

The culture of not paying attention to how hard Administrative Office Supervisors work. Office politics is very prevalent within Montefiore. It is all about who you know at Montefiore.

    Advice to Management

Before hiring upper and middle management candidates, their computer skill-sets need to be tested before a job is offered. Managers should not be hired if their skill-sets do not match up to their management level and title. Without those skill-sets, it keeps the hospital from growing and these managers become a distracting parasite on those whose skill-sets are superior.
