I have been working at Montgomery College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The campuses are beautiful, the faculty & staff are wonderful and as an adjunct professor, I don't have to have an advanced degree to teach here!

    Cons

Students self-select for the courses they want to take so consequently some of them haven't taken the pre-requisite classes. This can be a minor hassle because the instructor, then, must play the role of "bouncer" for students who do not have the required skills.

    Advice to Management

Have the registration system check for pre-requisite compliance when students sign up for classes. If they have the required skills without needing to take the courses, have them sign a statement to that effect. The instructors should then receive these statements prior to the first class so they can contact the students and do an assessment to verify the skills.

I have no idea for this field

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Montgomery College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience, great students and learning environment. Part-time faculty pay is best in the state, low but still the best.

    Cons

Administration bad. Parking fees ridiculous for part-time faculty. Too many college emails. Little to no benefits for part-time faculty.

    Advice to Management

Consider who makes your company run so smoothly and perhaps reward the little people.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Montgomery College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The College is growing and expanding rapidly, there is a good rapport with the community, management is fairly progressive and proactive, and there is a good benefits package.

    Cons

Student-focused environment seems to promote an atmosphere of student privilege, and students try to take advantage of their perceived position of privilege and treat the faculty like servants.

    Advice to Management

Of course we are all student-focused at MC; that is why we work at the community college. Downplay the student-centric theme and elevate respect for faculty as a core value.
