I have been working at Moody's full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Easy, mundane task-oriented job.
Schedule is stricly 9 to 5. Never an hour more
    Fairly low-stress environment

    Cons

Very clicky culture where a few "chosen ones" will invariably move up
Incredibly unfriendly for newcomers, no guidance, you're on your on
Never had a set of goals, so you will never achieve such goals
    Bonuses are a joke.

    Advice to Management

This is a regulated oligopoly (with S&P). I have no experience in other credit rating agencies, but this one has been truly awful. People with no personalities, menial tasks, and a lot of internal politics where a very few lucky ones move up. Absolutely zero opportunities for growth. Senior management is focused on ticking boxes and managing up, never concerned with employees.

    I worked at Moody's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -Work life balance is good
-Overall good benefits (401k, Medical, Dental)
-Work culture is pleasant and respectful of others
    -Supportive of LGBT rights

    Cons

-Executive management only cares about two things - buying back as many shares as possible and keeping the regulators off their backs. They don't care about extremely high turnover and poor morale that exists among the staff.
-Every year they find a new way to squeeze employees such as no raises for senior analysts in 2016, reduced vacation carry over days (they all expire by April anyways), and the most recent announcement of no holiday party for staff in 2016

    Advice to Management

None. Only work here if you're desperate, but make plans on leaving as soon as possible. Many colleagues have gone over to S&P, who seem willing to pay more.

I have been working at Moody's as a contractor

    Pros

Good pay, views of lower manhattan.

    Cons

If you want to come to a place with no culture, people have a stick up their butts, "Corporate America" vibe then Moody's is the right place. Typical big boys club and churn and burn shop. Military style management, follow the lines of command and they will pull rank on you. Tell you do to do something (Even though you are not qualified to do it) and expect you to get it down THEIR way since they have been doing it for so long.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the thinkers and innovators, maybe your department will operate more efficiently without high turnover. Let your employees voice their opinions are you will lose great talent.

I worked at Moody's (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefits and decent work-life balance.

    Cons

upper management is terrible at relaying information to teams and has no clue what individuals do. they expect everything to be done with little to no care of employee morale.

    Advice to Management

    Find ways to stimulate employees

I worked at Moody's (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Modern facility and good benefits plan.

    Cons

Management is not transparent and the company departments are very political. Managers are not sufficiently trained to supervise or manage a team.

I worked at Moody's (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Good work life balance
    - Not much competition in the ratings business
    - Good training in credit
    - Good base salary but horrible bonus
    - Great old boys network (for white males)

    Cons

    - The company would rather promote a white male with basic qualifications than a woman or minority with great credentials and a good work ethic
    - There is no promotion opportunity outside of the old boys network
    - You will never be positioned as a team leader if you are a woman unless the males have lost interest in the rating category
    - This firm is very poor at diversity in regards to high paying - leadership opportunities outside of the old boys network
    - Ladies pass on this company unless you are happy to be in support of male managers-low level supervisors for your entire career

    Advice to Management

    Read the cons

    I have been working at Moody's full-time

    Pros

Job stability, decent hours, nice people.you'll learn a lot. Not a great entry level job but good for the post-mba job or middle of your career.

    Cons

Career mobility is not fantastic. Company direction a little iffy recently and mentorship is non existent. Definitely a flight of talent unless the employee wants to stay there forever.

    Advice to Management

Get a stronger sense of what's happening below you. Global directives are not very informed about the work on-the-ground. Seek quality, not quantity.
