I worked at Mooney Aerospace (More than a year)

    Pros

Broad latitude to design and refine interior aircraft parts and ways to install said parts.

    Cons

Too many overall large changes that completely affect all departments, focus and stay with main changes into refinement, finish it.

I have been working at Mooney Aerospace full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small company, get to wear multiple hats, good learning opportunities, great exposure to general aviation, sheet metal and composites manufacturing. Fun place to work. Small enough to have family environment. Great to work with a good team and awesome airplane.

    Cons

Like many older companies, Mooney struggles with the "we've always done it this way" mentality. Communication between managers and managers to subordinates can be less than perfect. Conflicting direction within the company can hamper progress and moral. Lots of overtime at times.

    Advice to Management

Management should all be on the same page and give clear direction to their employees. Better salaries will help with employee retention. Listen to advice of employees (particularly the engineers!)

I worked at Mooney Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

it's a small but growing company. Salary was alright. There were only some nice people to work with.

    Cons

Many conflicts between departments. The work environment is lacking respect from each other. Everyone seems to be doing things on their own. The upper management is poor. they have no clue what they want and they keep changing ideas over and over again without getting the job done. Some employees are unprofessional at a workplace and should be fired. Guess what, these are the ones that still work there and don't get fire regardless of complaints. Employees tend to look for other opportunities to get out. I will never work for a place like Mooney ever if there are still that same management there because I know things won't go far regardless of a new CEO.

    Advice to Management

just a piece of advise that if the company needs to go far, the management needs to change and I mean big change. So far more talk than action. Just wait and see if the new CEO can make a difference. I don't know if he can. All I know is he's cutting off the budget by firing a number of people. This isn't always a wise idea. He needs to look at the root of the problem.

I worked at Mooney Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Freedom to do job with minimal supervision. New owners "Chinese" are investing in company. Pay OK for location of company.

    Cons

Little to no training. Very few new ideas due to majority of hires are older employees that were brought back that do not like change. Little support from engineering. Facility and equipment antiquated. Diverse workforce but upper management not diverse. High Turn Over rate.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees and try to make them feel like they belong.

I have been working at Mooney Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

small company, family environment and everyone know one another very well.

    Cons

not sure if the money will file for chapter 11 anytime soon

    Advice to Management

bring in a real engineer not some book worm that had 10 yrs of education and fancy degree that can not design a simple part that a high school can do in a day.

we want result a great engineer team that can produce result and show the world that Mooney is the best in it own class airplane.

    Pros

    1. You are helping to manufacture one of the best performing aircraft in the industry.
    2. If you like to make a lot of overtime.

    Cons

The culture of the company is steeped in the 1950's union type work ethic of only doing what you have to to get by, working hard to complete a mission under time and budget is frowned upon by the long term employees who will do anything to stop high performers. The attitude in the whole plant is take care of your own department and to hell with the rest of the factory. High performers are not welcome because they are viewed as a threat to the status quo. There is no attitude of team work and company pride . It's all about just doing what you have to to get it out of your area and make it someone else's problem. There is a constant attempt by department managers to make each other look bad, so they can point fingers at each other.

    Advice to Management

Shake up all your departments to force them out of their protective attitudes. Make them think outside of the box. The culture of the long term employees has always been that they will outlast the next owners. Mooney airplane company should be moved to a new facility and new employees should be trained and hired along with replacing all mangement and above that have been in place for 3 years or more.

I worked at Mooney Aerospace as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good and friendly work environment. Kind and quality people, very cooperative and work atmosphere is very good. Apparently people were very minded and caring about the quality of the final product (a small, composite airplane).

    Cons

Typical of a small company.. Management seemed weak, biased on old principles and inflexible to accept modern and cost efficient management principles. Did not seem to care too much about people, quality of work and talent there. Anyone seemed replaceable. There was no long term direction, and management acted quite erratically, but this is quite typical in the business nowadays. A good, efficient manager is hard to find nowadays.

    Advice to Management

Care about the people assets and keep the talent inside the company. Have better direction of what they want to do, and improve their management skills.

    Pros

Ability for promotion based on performance
Unique manufacturing environment; every day s something different
Support from senior management and good feeback on performance

    Cons

Little to no capital investment in the company for who knows how many years. Employees are expected to keep producing the highest quality aircraft using 50 year old equipment.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the company. Pay based on performance, not tenure. Upgrade facilities and equipment. Look into new manufacturing proceses. Kepp up with the rest of the world.
