I worked at Morehead Memorial Hospital part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a hospital! That means stable job, with great benefits most of the time. Crazy at times as well with people coming in.

    Cons

Different people with different attitudes, sometimes they come in upset and they take it out on you. Don't mind it!

    Advice to Management

    Treat everyone with respect!

I worked at Morehead Memorial Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers and a few of the patients

    Cons

Patient load. Per hospital protocol if you have pediatric patients, you can only have 4 total patients per shift. I routinely was in charge of the floor, half the time had an LPN and RNs to supervise, had no secretary, and had at least one or two pediatric patients AND 2-4 adult patients for a 12 hour shift. It was impossible to provide safe therapeutic care to my patients AND run the floor!!!

    Advice to Management

Get your heads out of your butts and give a crap about patient care, safety and the stress you're putting your staff through!!!

Absolutely great surgeons and staff! They make you feel right at home.

    Cons

Eden is a small town, everything is at least 30 minutes away.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your staff they, make Morehead Memorial Hospital possible.

I worked at Morehead Memorial Hospital full-time

    Pros

Variety of work to be done. For the most part co-workers were okay. Pay was okay but not enough for seasoned workers.

    Cons

A lot of backstabbing and drama, especially with management. Had two layoffs and management likes to play favorites.

    Advice to Management

Just because you have an MBA doesn't mean you know how to do radiology, nursing, and laboratory. Stop interfereing with highly trained and well educated staff; they know the job much better than you do.

    Pros

New management is visible and engaged with employees. Staff go out of their way to create a wonderful patient experience. It is community owned, but through agreement with the local Board of Trustees, is managed by Novant Health. It does not have the specialties available at large hospitals, but the basic care is excellent. That said, they have a neuro surgeon and pain specialist doc whose reputations have patients traveling some distance to see them. NOTE: Carl Martin not CEO.

    Cons

In a community that has suffered a lot of job loss and the erosion of industry, the hospital has struggled financially. With stronger leadership, the community must rally around the facility by using it for tests, births, procedures, ED visits and more.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate employees. Empower them. You might not be the one who pays the most, but be the one that has such an incredible work atmosphere that people will want to be there.

I worked at Morehead Memorial Hospital (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with clients and co-workers to assist in solving problems to create an unforgettable patient experience.

    Cons

Stability of Management, constant overturning of CEO doesn't show stability in the healthcare sector.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your departments when offering ideas of change. Try not to make decisions based on your knowledge of what it looks like, but how your staff can work and evolve.

I worked at Morehead Memorial Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

the people are very personable, including management, but watch your back. Expecting the employees to do more with less. Worry about patient care and satisfaction as it is almost impossible to do this with the way place is managed.

    Cons

see above, although I understand that the hospital is going to merge with the Novant system which may help.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees and learn to do something for them, as they are who will make or break you. Happy employees make for happy patients.
