I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, you need to one top of things . Really good benefits, salary is decent, you need to negotiate for your compensation. People are very nice and fun to work with.

    Cons

Typical banking culture, political issues in almost every corner. Bureaucratic hurtles are ever-present Too many meetings.

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Brand name is good, and also a powerful bank.
    2. Training opportunity in New York, where you can systematically learn a lot of technologies.
    3. You have the opportunity to work with smart people and embrace new technologies.
    4. Their IT infrastructure is the best I have seen so far.

    Cons

    1. Salary of trainees barely aligned with market average.
    2. If you unfortunately work in team that sits far far away in the back office (almost no interaction with front desk), and you are more comfortable with coding rather than talking/managing, your annual salary increase and compensation might be small, or barely match inflation rate. One year may be okay. But if you stay there for a few years, you will find yourself significantly underpaid, compared to your peers hired from the market who do the same daily job as yours.
    3. Workload and responsibility is too much for the salary they pay.
    4. As with all large companies, bureaucracy is everywhere. You have to make your performance visible to MD+ level to get your effort somewhat appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Please, ensure the salary of people with similar experience at least comparable, regardless when they were hired.

I have been working at Morgan Stanley as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

After a year or two here, you will go at any company, and be able to laugh at the way they operate, the tech environment is insanely advanced. great learning experience
The pay is competitive, if you sell yourself and negociate
in less than a year got promoted to a manager in montreal, dont listen to the people saying about no advancement if youre not in nyc, they dont avance becasue they arent good enough.

    Cons

can be a little life invading, long hours, but if youre very good, you can minimize the hours because youre efficient.
