I worked at Morgan Stanley as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

MS invest more in their core technology than any other investment bank that I have worked for. They are big enough to re-invent whatever wheel they want to. I enjoyed working at MS. The offices were great. Facilities good and the work was interesting.

    Cons

The downside of inventing everything yourself is that for a new joiner this is a challenging environment. Finding out best practice is difficult and took longer than at other firms.

    Advice to Management

You have some amazing technologists. Find a way of making their work more discoverable and you'll decrease the time taken for new joiners to get productive.

    Pros

Morgan stanley are very driven and focus on employee development. They look for employees to constantly move and improve within the company.

    Cons

Morgan Stanley are driven to improve, however at times forget that employees can only take on so much work at one time. Priorities are not always focused.

    Advice to Management

Management in Morgan Stanley need to remember that whilst improving is essential, they need to support their staff workloads. Work life balance should be a priority

I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, fast paced work environment, a lot of people are excellent, let down by a select few

    Cons

    Poor management, based on favouritism

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring managers based on favoritism within the company. Too much snobbery from some employees. Better culture than some banks, but still highly unequal and too much brown nosing.
