It seems partners are much more flexible with associates who have kids than with those who don’t. If it’s okay for my colleague with a kid to leave at 5 pm and log on later, why isn’t that the same for me (no kids)? My obligations might be different, but I still have a life and want to be able to do certain things, like catch that evening workout class or cook dinner for my partner. As you can probably tell, my firm is operating 100% in person. There is no point here — I’m just whining.

      Lost Sight of Purpose

May 23, 2017 - Personal Injury Case Manager in Tallahassee, FL

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pleasant work environment. You are family, the good and bad of family. Most of the attorneys genuinely carry about the employees and what they do. The work is meaningful. The feeling of satisfaction when you have truly helped someone. And of course, the incentive trip every year is an added bonus.

      Cons

Numbers driven and in order to have job security, case managers begin to focus more on meeting quotas than what is truly in the best interest of the client.

      Micromanaging disaster

      Pros

If you get a good attorney, that's the only pro.

      Cons

Orlando runs everything. They do not care about their employees. It's literally just a butt in the chair. Training is non existent so unless you get a good pod that is willing to help, your set up for failure from the start. Work on 2 systems. It's all about reports. Clients constantly complain about having several diff attorneys and case managers bc turn over is OUTRAGEOUS. Almost no one lasts beyond a year or two. They fire people on a whim and if you give a notice they walk you out. It's a very toxic work environment.

      Personal Injury Litigation

      Pros

Great boss that is very approachable and treats his employees wonderfully, happy hours, flexible if you are a student or have other minor schedule confllicts, decent benefits, mostly friendly co-workers, looks good on your resume, mostly laid back environment as long as you're doing your job

      Cons

pay scale is very skewed and unfair, underpaid, not much advancement (they hire a lot of outside people to fill positions rather than promoting within), a lot of favoritism especially with HR: they will never be reprimanded for anything that other employees are such as petty dress code violations, tardiness, breaks on the clock, etc., we are often treated like children rather than adults and micromanaged by HR, attorneys focus about 90% of their attention on case managers as if the litigation team is a group of irrelevant peasants: I assume because they bank cases, but litigation works very hard with their cases and getting them to trial or even settled as well, turnover is above average, hiring untrained, unprofessional employees that sink the ship yet get the same rewards/pay as you, lacking teamwork

      Not for the Easily Stressed

      Pros

Wonderful Group of people to work with. Everyone is very supportive and willing to help each other out.

      Cons

Pay is not worth the work you do. The training program is not close to par and the amount of stress that you deal with this job is the reason for the high rate of turn over. not enough pre suits per case managers

Atlanta Case Managers are treated like SLAVES!

May 30, 2014 - Case Manager in Atlanta, GA

      Pros

Lots of free drinks during happy hours. That's all I can think of.

      Cons

Unfortunately, I don't work for free drinks. Case managers are overworked, underpaid and underappreciated. Which makes it a horrible disservice to their clients. If I referred anyone to this firm, it would be someone I disliked. You are on a constant hamster wheel called a "bonus." OR the company makes you think they are giving you a "free" yearly trip as appreciation for your hard work...but in reality it's something that you've earned 10 times over. The perpetual carrot race. I'd rather have the money.

      Pros

Good location if you are in school at GSU, high volume so you gain a lot of experience.

      Cons

Bad company moral, low pay, they treat staff poorly especially everyone except the case managers.

      Pros

People you work with are amazing. The other case managers and paralegals are a great support

      Cons

Do not care about employees. It is more than just about bottom line, it is about squeezing out as much as you can from the insurance company and not giving people as much as the attorneys are getting. They make a killing while many of the people working there are just trying to put dinner on the table and the case managers and paralegals are the ones that are doing the grunt work and trying to settle cases for the attorneys without them going to court.

      Cliques galore, quota generated

      Apr 30, 2015 - Paralegal/Case Manager in Clermont, FL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Parties and happy hours. There is not much more in the way of pros.

      Cons

No structured training (sink or swim mentality), quota generated if you don't meet you are fired. Attorney's do NOT back up their paralegal/case managers/staff in general. Lots of cliques, if you are not in, they will find a way to get you out. Very fake managers, HR, attorney's. It's all for the money. Work hours were 60 plus because of quota and you were on salary.

      For the Politics and drinks

Jul 3, 2014 - Case Manager in Orlando, FL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

A great learning experience for learning how to handle many cases with pressure.

      Cons

Case Managers are worked to death. Obviously money is important but the people (client) get shafted if they don't have a case. Attorney's do not back up their staff. Very clique atmosphere. If you are like you will be ok, if you are shunned by one person, they all hate you. Beware office politics are strong.
