Benefit package is great and salary is very competitive.

Supervisors abuse their authority. You feel like you are walked on instead of feeling like you belong on a team. If something goes wrong, it is your fault and the supervisor does not help you off your back. Work/life balance is a struggle. If you want to leave early one day, you are looked down upon.

    Good PTO, profit sharing plan.

No fertility coverage. This is disappointing for such a large company and not the norm in Illinois where fertility coverage is mandated for companies with over 50 employees. Since Mortenson is headquartered in Minneapolis, they are not required to provide this coverage. This makes the Chicago office benefit package less competitive compared to their peers in the construction market. I wouldn't recommend the company to females because of this.

The people here are top notch. Management seems to genuinely care about the employees. Great pay and benefit.

Work hours can be tough, and the tasks can be demanding.

    Great people, great culture

As an intern, I was given a lot of opportunities and included as effectively a full time team member. Great experience with wonderful coworkers. The company culture values each other and safety which is very important on active job sites. PTO and benefit options were great for myself as an intern with no prior experience.

I don't have any cons for the position.

Great working environment, with a employee driven culture.

The biggest benefit of working for M.A. Mortenson is their commitment to their employees. From structured training sessions, to a world class safety program, their emphasis is always on the employees.

It can seem slow to advance, and the salaries may not be in line with other similar sized construction firms throughout the country.
