    Positive Outlook

I worked at Moseley Architects full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Approachable management, great projects, good people. If you are talented and work hard, you will be rewarded here.

    Cons

office politics, don't always follow through with promises. Will mislead clients to win work and pull a bait and switch. The only good office is in Richmond, all the other offices are dismal and soul crushing atmospheres...

    Advice to Management

Keep on recognizing the hard work of employees, don't let people fall through the cracks. Just because they are quiet and keep their head down, doesn't mean you shouldn't recognize their efforts.

    Pros

Moseley Architects is a firm that prides itself on being cutting edge in the Green industry. Recently, renovating a warehouse into a LEED accredited facility for their headquarters. There are in-house classes available to learn more about the architectural field. The environment is warm from the perspective of a worker bee. Most architectural firms will have long hours, but at Moseley there is at least pizza involved.

    Cons

Though Moseley Archiects does a warm family vibe with its employees, management does not get their hands dirty. Senior level management with the exception of 2 board members will keep themselves at a distance. Only being involved with a project or client if there is a threat to sue. My thought, "keeping your head buried in the ground does not make the problem go away." A lot of money wasted on "informational" web meetings between offices. Most of the information conveyed could have been put in a weekly newsletter. As well, the classes provided are taught at headquarters, resulting in more expenditures for travel reimbursement of employees from satellite offices. It would have been more cost effective to have a webcast of the classes. I beilieve it would have saved about 6-8 positions that were eliminated in this current economic downturn.

    Advice to Management

Have a plan 'B' and don't put all your eggs in one basket. Moseley Architects does know the municipal game, but it may be time to learn another.

    Pros

They created a Moseley University to enhance professional growth.

    Cons

They tried to create a construction document standards that was difficult to apply to every project and caused conflict with general contractors.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in your employees and trying out ways to streamline operations.

    Pros

They provided a friendly atmosphere. Employee training was done on a regular basis to enhance skills. Professional appearance to the offices.

    Cons

Some of the architects were not as good as they thought they were. This let to a building that was not what the owner had expected.

    Advice to Management

The architects are not the most knowledgeable member of the project team. Particularly when they don't spend anytime on the job.
