    Pros

You will learn a lot! As a tax staff you are able to work on individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, etc.

    Cons

-Silicon Valley Office is very gloomy. There is absolutely no windows or sunlight. Other offices call ours "The Dungeon"

-The scheduling of assignments is horrible. There is one person doing it for way too many people. They do not respond to emails. And they are very biased about who they give projects to and they have a bad attitude. Some people get way overloaded while others don't have enough.

-Getting promoted has a lot to do with politics. It doesn't matter if you're working hard and getting great reviews at evaluation time. Instead of basing your performance off of these reviews, they have a private meeting where only Seniors and above are allowed. It gives them the opportunity to make excuses in front of the large group as to why you shouldn't be promoted, all while avoiding telling you face to face.

-Currently 3 tax prep softwares in use. SVO is the last office to convert fully to one software. You are expected to know how to use all.

-No culture. The office puts minimal effort in creating a fun and inclusive culture. It is everyone for themselves in this office. If you don't fit in, good luck getting ahead. Since the budgets given for projects are unrealistic, everyone eats their time and does not report the full amount. If you do, you'll be criticized that you went over budget, regardless of if you did a good job. This happened to an experienced staff who said they were just trying to be honest. They didn't get promoted while other people who ate their time did.

-There are two teams. One focuses on corporate work and the other on individuals. You don't get to pick a team until you're promoted to Senior.

    -I don't feel appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Fix the scheduling issue. Treat your employees better and not just with junk food.

    Pros

This is a great place to be in public accounting. It really all comes down to people. The people I work with and for are good people. I don't hate my bosses and there are opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

You're going to have to work a lot. This is a place for driven individuals who want to constanttly improve. Busy season is exhausting but worth the flexibility gained during the rest of the year.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to improve. You all are awesome, even if you're borderline workaholics I appreciate your good attitude and your willingness to be in the trenches with the peons.

    Pros

Competitive benefits package. 5 weeks paid time off to start is hard to beat. Lots of fun off-season activities for the whole office or small teams.

    Cons

The tax accounting world can get boring, especially on the bottom rungs of the ladder. The cycle between crazy busy and nothing to do is brutal.

I worked at Moss Adams LLP full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -5 weeks PTO

-Good training for interns and new hires. Experienced hires did not have as good of training. Most people who I saw that came in as experienced hires had a hard time.

    - Well respected/known firm with a lot of very smart people

-Flexibility in terms of hours as long as you got your work done. Allowed to work from home.

-Get broad experience in all different types of returns (individual returns, trusts, estates, partnerships, corps) in many different industries. You can try everything, No pressure to specialize in a certain industry for awhile. Gives you a chance to figure out what you like and don't like through first hand experience.

-Pretty Organized. They have a lot of processes in place.

-Free snacks (chips, fruit snacks, candy etc.)

    -Upward mobility

    Cons

    - pressure to not go over budget/ Unrealistic budgets

-They don't always practice what they preach. Example: "People" are one of moss adams cornerstones and they preach this a lot. Actions speak louder than words. There were instances where their words did not align with their actions.

-Lots of office politics. The way management runs things, people sometimes become competitive with their co-worker for hours and work. A lot of people have a hard time saying "No" for the fear of looking bad. They feel like maybe they wont get work in the future or that it might make someone else look good if that other person is the hero and says "yes". Other things I saw when working at Moss Adams: (1) people didn't want to use their PTO because they thought they would look bad. (2) People checked each others hours and compared their hours to their co-workers. Some people would get a bit obsessive about this. (3) People looked on the instant messenger to see when people came in and when they left- it seemed like some people felt like they had to dedicate their entire life to work in order to be respected or thought of as a good/hard worker to the sr. managers and partners.

    - Gossiping.

    - Favoritism- Not all people were given the same opportunities or mentoring

    - Cliquey- Some cliques were not inclusive. sometimes felt like high school.

-No work/life balance during busy season (which can be about 4-6 months of the year depending on what types of returns you work on)

-They did not often provide meals (lunch/dinner) or per diem's during busy season.

-No free parking- although you get a discounted rate.
