I have been working at Moss Motors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to talk to people who like and care about vintage British cars.

Good place to work if you are looking for a part time job and don't need much income.

Good place for retirees to work.

Coworkers very mellow. Most in key positions are well over 60 years old and have been in their jobs for 30+ years.

I'm tasked with taking phone orders. About 80% of the company's U.S. sales are from people calling in. Most callers don't have internet access or don't know how to use a web browser. (Those who do probably buy from our competitors)

    Cons

Near minimum wage. One consequence of this is the high turnover in the lower ranks. Looks like they expect and plan for this turnover.

Insanely out-of-date accounting software, it dates from 1998. Website dates from 2005. Operations is stuck in the 1990s. Very much not a "learning enviroment".

    Advice to Management

Don't change anything otherwise you might be in business in ten years.

    people are not dispensable.

I have been working at Moss Motors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a job. You get a pay check every two weeks. Full time gets ok benefits. There is always a full work load.

    Cons

Everything. There is no growth. The pay sucks. Management has no idea what they are doing. Corporate doesn't care about the employees whatsoever. They give raises to those who screw up and don't even praise the employees who have to pick up all of the slack. There is no discipline in place and they pretend that nothing is ever wrong. Very discouraging to those who want this company to go places.

    Advice to Management

Corporate should praise those who actually work everyday and pay attention to what's actually happening in the warehouses.

I worked at Moss Motors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice, friendly people with decades of experience in their roles

    Cons

Little to no room for growth unless you stick around for decades.

Raises are cost of living unless you threaten to quit. Don't even think about a bonus.

Management is so cheap that they make you put a deposit down to attend the company christmas party

    Advice to Management

Give employees growth opportunities! Reward long time employees instead of keeping them in the same position, at the same salary for years (decades).

I worked at Moss Motors full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome management, slower pace. People are really passionate about classic cars. Tight-knit teams. Many people have worked here for 5, 10+ years—really shows you the quality of the company. Old-school type of company.

    Cons

The building is a little shabby, but that's all I can think of.

New parts on different cars every day. Also learning the tricks from the old people that have been there for years. Very good investment

I have been working at Moss Motors full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Get to think about cars and car parts all day, and talk with others who are excited about the same. Discount of parts. 401K (of which employee match has been pulled in slow years), paid sick and vacation time, health care.

    Cons

Owned privately by two men who have zero experience working anywhere else. Everything is controlled by and is under their microscope. No trust in management. Very "good ol' boys club" atmosphere. Many in management have also only ever worked for Moss, many never went to college. No future vision. Slow to change. Building in disrepair. Work stations are not ergonomic and employees are not allowed to bring in their own furniture. Pay is low compared to similar jobs in the area.

    Advice to Management

Hire outside talent that has proven experience to allow Moss to grow into the 21st century.
