I have been working at Motive (Texas) full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Smart people - Not horrible work-life balance - A growth group with in Alcatel Lucent

    Cons

    - Salaries have not kept pace with the market - Still functioning in a quasi start-up mode and somewhat disorganized

    Advice to Management

    - Provide pay raises to your long term employees who have stuck through the bad times - Bring more structure to the organization

I worked at Motive (Texas) for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent pay for the work. Management style was more laid back than similar sized companies before and after sale to Alcatel-Lucent. Small autonomous teams were the norm with only a few practice managers who were obsessive micromanagers promoted from one particular group that was the company's cash cow of dubious value.

    Cons

Management is extremely myopic when it comes to recognizing the talent already working at the company in Austin. Promotions tend toward title rather than salary/responsibility expansion. Perpetual hiring freezes left contractors in benefit-less limbo for years. Department consolidation and endless reorgs and talent shifts to isolated groups off shore left many unsure of company direction or future in Austin.

    Advice to Management

Focus product offerings and after-sales support follow up badly needed. Let your professional employees do their job without constant second guessing at practice manager level. Promote team collaboration instead of isolation and cage match infighting over shared resources and scheduling of prod pushes.

I worked at Motive (Texas) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great talent - Exposure to different parts of the business

    Cons

    - No manager training - Just "Do it" and don't ask question attitude - Stock remains in the toilet (after almost 4 year RSU are still worthless) - Directionless execs.

    Advice to Management

None that would be of value. There is so much churn at the C-level any advice would go out the door.

    I worked at Motive (Texas)

    Pros

    - Good benefits for Austin - People are very good

    Cons

    - They are slowly being subsumed by Alcatel-Lucent, so a lot of the small company feel is going away

I have been working at Motive (Texas)

    Pros

casual work atmosphere, entrepreneural spirit. There is a lot of intra-department interation that goes on and thus everyone gets to know a lot about other groups within Motive and their challenges. Feedback from different groups is taken in a very positive way and is incorporated in to the product. It is a very fun environment, with frequent team outings and team building activities. The work-life balance... at Motive is one that stands out the most. One has the flexibility to schedule work around other non-work activities within reasonable limits. But managers and employees alike are not financially conscious and hence cost consciousness is something that does not run top-down in the company.
