      Pros

Motorola had best working environment, and Engineering atmosphere. A lot of smart engineers were working there, and distributed in all kinds of domain. This brought the possibilities to resolve even the hardest issue they met, whatever it's from hardware, software, even vendor.

      Cons

After Lenovo acquired Motorola, everything changed. Not a good place to stay any more.

Good place to work, but stressful...

      Pros

Motorola offers Work life balance...I am able to participate in home life and work activities and not feel like one is taking away from the other. Flexibility - there is a lot of flexibility and the option to telecommute. It helps save time and effort - very laid back work environment. The people are phenomenal and it's a very close environment...your work collegues will become your best friends which makes work a fun place to be at. The benefits and compensation are fair to high and with all the non tangebile benefits, Motorola is a gerat place to work. I highly receommend it.

      Cons

The downsides to working at Motorola is that it is a high paced, very stressful work environment. Things are constantly changing and Senior Leadership is constantly being rotated in and out. That means that things like stragey and directoin are never full implemented becuase halfway through things change and we have to start working on someone elsese project plan. Also, Sr Leadership uses a lot of consulting firms...they would be far more successful if they looked at Motorola and it's culture internally and implemented org modeal and programs that support that. Many times, we have paid consultants to tell us how to do something only to not implement it that way in the end.

      Arrogant and Ineffective Leadership

      Pros

Motorola still offers a competitive health benefits package. Motorola's work environment is clean, comfortable and up-to-date. Motorola offers wireless access in all its facilities and provides up-to-date software tools to do the job.

      Cons

      1. For some reason, Motorola is manager-heavy. There are too many senior-level and mid-level managers who spend their time talking about the work that needs to be completed and then passing the responsibility of completing the work to the few lowest level analysts or working professionals. 2. Motorola keeps losing momentum with its constant organization changes. 3. Motorola is weak at following its well-developed processes.

Your immediate division makes all the difference...

Sep 3, 2009 - Senior Systems Engineer in Schaumburg, IL

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good pay and benefits, generous PTO, flexible work environment, opportunities to jump around the company if you grab them. Your immediate manager, team, and business unit can be completely different from the culture of another, so it's hard to generalize.

      Cons

Mobile Devices division determines the tone for the entire company, regardless of your immediate successes. Everyone is afraid of layoffs. Company doesn't hire hardly any new people, and doesn't replenish headcount if someone leaves voluntarily. Stopped 401k matching. Anyone under 30 is considered "very junior", hard to get respect if you're not in your 40s. Terrible intranet site makes it impossible to find simple admin tasks (i.e. find a map of conference rooms). IL02 building in Schaumburg is loud, ugly, and depressing with no windows in most office areas.

Great place to work for family-oriented workers

Dec 27, 2012 - Anonymous Employee in Sunnyvale, CA

      Pros

For most part, people are very easy going at least in my department. There is a strong sense of family at Motorola. I've seen people leave and return on multiple occasions because the work environment is very balanced. I think many people stay because it's family friendly with reasonable work hours.

      Cons

I think a main problem is that the previous senior leadership was very disorganized so projects would be created and then discarded at a moment's notice. You could spend months on a product and then it would get cancelled at the last minute. I can see why Motorola eventually ended up being sold to Google because they could not be self-sustain with the products they sold on the marketplace. Pay and benefits are average compared to other companies in the valley. This makes it hard to attract top-talent or keep good employees around for long periods of time. At least in my department there isn't any room for growth. It's very flat hierarchy with too many managers in the department. Google worked to flatten the layers of bureaucracy but in doing so made it impossible for growth in the company.

      Motorola WILL triumph

      Pros

Motorola was a fantastic company to work for with great people, benefits, work environment, tools and opportunities. management was top notch and knew how to treat people with respect and dignaty. If it was not for the hard times I am sure I would still be working for this American icon. I hope them all the best now and in the future.

      Cons

The cleaning crew did not do a good job in the bathrooms and sometimes the wastebaskets were full. Libertyville was not the most convenient location but was tolerable. Parking was at a premium if you came in after 8 in the morning.
