I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits (seems like they used to be more generous), good work/life balance, telecommuting options

    Cons

Company philosophy on pay raises has changed from annual increases for most everyone, to manager recommended increases for only star performers, which in practice has meant no increases for anyone in some groups for three years. In addition much of the development engineering and test has been moved overseas. This has resulted in low morale and a brain drain at the company, with lots of experienced engineers walking out the door going to other companies.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on the quarterly bottom line, and focus on maintaining your engineering expertise and experience.

    Pros

    PTO is nice to get.

    Cons

They did a poor job of on boarding and making new acquisition people welcome.

    Advice to Management

Don't say things are all rainbows and sunshine at the quarterly Analyst Call and the next week lay off a bunch of people.

    Pros

Excellent public safety solutions and reputation in the insdustry. Remote work available.

    Cons

Code of conduct policy exists but is not audited or enforced for internal senior members or management.

    Advice to Management

Focus on management’s performance, audit their processes to ensure fairness and balance of opportunities given to all teams members.

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture, great people and salary

    Cons

the people in management. Their CEO is trying to use money from cash account in the balance sheet, that was for retirement purposes, and it is investing that cash with his full intention of running through to the end of it. So how is management be paying for people as they are starting to retire?, they won't, they will keep doing what they do and retire (fire) people before that even is a possibility

    Advice to Management

Good luck, when you get to be a little bit over 50, start looking over your back

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Team members made this the best place to work.
Love the work life balance and how easy it was to communicate with direct managers.
Buy int from the entire team to get things done correctly.

    Cons

Upper management is disconnected and makes decision for short gains not really thinking long term.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Motorola's work culture is very work hard, play hard - Employees are very focused during the week but the Young Professionals Group hosts monthly in office happy hours and annual boat cruises, company pays for a beer cart to come around on Fridays

Generous salary and benefits - Salary was much higher than expected for a recent graduate. Their offer was actually $10,000 higher than the minimum expected salary I listed on my application.

Meaningful company mission, interesting work and products - actually feel like end products make a difference

Flexible work hours and work from home.

Great HQ location in West Loop - in between Ogilvy and Union Station which is perfect for city dwellers and commuters.

Last, but not least: the free snacks and latte machines

    Cons

Need to be autonomous. You won't be micromanagement but new hires can feel like they are lacking guidance.

Takes a lot of time to understand the products if you are not from the public safety/ telecom industry.

Big company means lots of division between departments and teams.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in innovative software, but make sure you're listening to customers' needs and wants.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to move throughout the company, especially in the sales organization. Great company cutlure as a whole that promotes within.

    Cons

The inside sales team has had multiple iterations and changes and the outside sales teams are confused with the changes. You’re “locked” into an 18 month commitment, even if other departments want you. You’ll be blocked

    Advice to Management

When people are ready to move forward, don’t hold them back

  10. "People are committed to support each other"

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Whenever you need help or support, can easily IM people you don't even know and they are usually very open to either assist or guide you to someone who can.

    Cons

The drive from west suburbs can be brutal. Would be great to have either a work from home option or a 4/10 schedule
