I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team, awesome supporting management. I really felt like they cared about my career and goals. The work is really rewarding, I helped police officers with the software I developed.

    Cons

Stuck with a lot of legacy products. Executive level decisions show the exact opposite of mid-level managment from pros. Upper management seems to care very little about the engineering staff.

    Pros

My team was awesome. I worked with an amazing group of people who had excellent software development skills. Had fun working. Flexible opportunities depending on manager. Good PTO. Good ESPP

I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Originally a strong project management culture, Motorola (and later, Motorola Solutions) engineering and management embraced and cultivated the key enablers. Good planning. Clear, consistent communication. A single source of truth. Accountability. It was a fantastic place to learn and practice project management.

    Cons

Short-term thinking and lack of decision-making undermined the culture. Constant re-organization (and splitting the company into smaller and smaller niches). Management embraced an innovation culture, without understanding it. Afraid of being an 800 lb gorilla (that dominated their market spaces), they sought to become more silicon valley, without understanding the strengths of the former and the pitfalls in the latter. As Motorola imploded, the people left standing were the ones hoping to ride it out to retirement, or very good at a) powerpoint, and b) clearing things off their daily to-do lists without regard to the real impacts. Politics, influence, and in-fighting took over.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying so much attention to 'motion' and start paying more attention to your mission, your DNA.

I worked at Motorola Solutions (Less than a year)

    Pros

Made the interns feel right at home from day one. The employees were so encouraging and ready to help. I was in Sales and the floor was always buzzing with great conversation and hard work. They gave real work for interns and the only coffee I ever got was for myself!

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of turnover, people only had been there for 1-2 years, most of them just started 6 months prior.

Outlook of a company has been great in last 2-3 years with executives driving growth

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

nice location in suburbs of chicago (assuming you dont want to be in the city or downtown); decent benefits and work environment; some teams / departments still do "real" engineering

    Cons

    dont care for the ceo.

    Advice to Management

focus on the people - you're best asset.

    Cons

One thing that I can say about is that the Management style is geared more to self-motivated individuals.

    Advice to Management

Keeping doing what you're doing! It would be nice to continue to grow in size.
