I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing people, everyone is treated with respect whether you are a contractor or employee. The culture is great! They are very flexible and forward-thinking with mobility/flexibility in your work schedule and location.

    Cons

I honestly don't have any at this time! I don't see this as a con but some people would, a lot of areas have very few or no admins. Everyone is expected to do their own calendars, get supplies, and other miscellaneous items. New people that are used to an admin take a little extra time to adjust to this but it seems to work well in the type of environment they have created. Not to worry, everyone is pretty self-sufficient!

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent front-line management focused on career development and application. Strong committment to consistent evaluation in a company that has become more focused since the Solutions/Mobility separation

    Cons

No major downsides, only comment is that while pay is competitive with other companies for engineers, if you really want money at MSI, get a sales job.

    Advice to Management

Recent changes to management and structure seem to be helping. As MSI is a more focused enterprise, continue to consider the impact of changes to all aspects of the business, including the frontline personnel. Accelerate (if possible) conversion from legacy IT systems.

    Pros

My role involved a tremendous amount of incredible, international travel. Our design team was so close it was my second family. I stayed a good 4 years longer than I expected because it was fun going to work everyday and felt purpose in the products I was helping create.

    Cons

It's still an engineering company at heart - makes it tough sometimes to drive innovation when the company still cares more about time and cost. They're coming around, though. Good place to gain tremendous hands-on experience with product development. Sometimes tough to grow/be promoted due to the senior management lifers.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more innovation. Stand behind the designers as much as Marketing and Engineering. Many of us do not see eye to eye on your promotion choices for Director and Senior level managers. Those individuals should exude intelligence, ingenuity, and respect.

    Pros

    -great pay
    -Great people
    -great products
    -great atmosphere

    Cons

-surprisingly, not allot of opportunity to advance or lateral move. Everyone is just sitting put due to the ages of the upper levels. A bit top heavy.
-Not the Motorola people think about. Not as much focus on employees as in the Galvin days.

    Advice to Management

-do more shuffling of people laterally to give them experience.
