I have been working at Mounds View Public part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Education is a priority for the families in the Mounds View School District and it shows in the classrooms.

    Cons

Being in a different building most days is difficult, hard to make connections.

    Advice to Management

None really, cooperating staff, as well as support staff are both great!

I worked at Mounds View Public part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice and supportive teachers and paraprofessionals. Parents are involved.

    Cons

Special education is overworked. If part-time, they don't give prep time and fill your schedule. You are given hours of work at hire, but after being hired you are expected to work over and above your hours to complete your work. Spec ed teachers complete evaluations here, which adds a lot to the workload. Other districts have evaluations completed by a separate team. Meetings constantly over and above work time.

    Advice to Management

Management should realize if they treat employees respectful and protect them by not giving them an unattainable workload, they will keep happy employees who want to work there long term.

I worked at Mounds View Public full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice atmosphere, great teachers, and good students!

    Cons

No due process, easily intimidated by confident people of color. Unorganized leadership, high turnover of parafessional staff. Senior management stinks.

    Advice to Management

There's always three sides to each story. Keep your word. Not every teacher has good motives. Think of the students.

I worked at Mounds View Public full-time

    Pros

    - Fantastic place to work if you fit the mold
    - Positive parent involvement
    - Good benefits
    - Above average student motivation
    - High-performing school
    - Supported by surrounding community
    - Access to variety of educational technology

    Cons

    - If you don't fit the mold (and aren't willing to conform to the mold), it's a very difficult place to work
    - Below average in-service professional development
    - Rampant mental illness stigma
    - Lack of recognition for student success outside academic achievement
    - All classroom supplies bought with personal funds
    - I would not be comfortable sending my own children here with the high-pressure environment
    - School feels like an academic institution but not a community (if that's what you're looking for)

    Advice to Management

Rather than supporting teachers the way you would want to be supported, listen to them about the support that they need

I have been working at Mounds View Public full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Supportive administration, high expectations, good benefits

    Cons

There is little professional development and the parents of the district are very hands on--which is a good thing, but they are involved to the point where some students aren't taking on their own education.
