I have been working at Mount Royal University full-time

    Pros

Good place to work and build a career

    Cons

    Salaries lower than downtown Calgary

    Advice to Management

Communications with staff seem to be canned, real conversations would be useful.

I have been working at Mount Royal University (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of flexibility with time off. Plenty of sick days, decent benefits, and a pension plan. Access to services on campus (Health Services). Free gym membership. Great reimbursements on professional and personal development through the MRSA. Decent hours. Christmas shut down means you'll never have to worry about working for the holidays.

    Cons

Management does not care about the happiness of their staff. Toxic work environment because of this. Severely understaffed, so end up doing the work of 2-3 people. Little appreciation for going above your job description. This makes simple job titles seem stressful.

    Advice to Management

Management does not appreciate their staff making it difficult to go above and beyond your job title. Stop focusing on the bottom line. Start focusing on the happiness of your employee.

I have been working at Mount Royal University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Diverse growing Post Secondary with niche programs and relatively small leadership team. Rated best post secondary in Calgary, and highly rated by students.

    Cons

Considered by some to be the "other" university in Calgary. Some in the community do not know who we are since we transitioned from a College to a University. Not enough contact or support from our alumni.

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues and a wonderful place to teach. Great benefits and salary. Would work there again. Also a well maintained building

    Cons

Poor upper leadership. Not open to feedback from faculty direction yet pretend that they are. Even in the face of clear feedback, still choose to do what they want. They run this like a business not a learning institution.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to you faculty.

I worked at Mount Royal University part-time

    Pros

Awesome community building. You are always meeting with people so it gets you out there and in the University atmosphere.

    Cons

You're a little overworked and have to give up a lot of your free time for meetings and there will be times you are called out of bed at 3am for menial things but overall it's a great place to work and getting free rent isn't bad

    Advice to Management

Maybe don't make multiple meetings a week mandatory as we all have lives outside of this as well
