      Pros

Discounts on gears and services + Deals on events and partners of MEC. Sustainable oriented company.

      Advice to Management

I have been working at Mountain Equipment Co-op full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The people here are amazing. Great co-workers and great management. The company at all levels is working really hard to make sure staff at all levels and all stores have everything they need to thrive in their work, so it’s both currently great and working to get better!

      Cons

Retail isn’t the most lucrative job. The pay is fair and raises are calculated based on hours worked, but it feels like slow progress sometimes toward those higher hourly rates.

      Advice to Management

      Great job!

      I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op full-time

      Pros

The company's Mission and Values are admirable, the staff discounts are not bad relative to the marketplace, and being able to wear jeans to work is nice.

      Cons

Some head-scratching appointments to the senior team have been detrimental to the business and its culture.

      Advice to Management

Ask yourself this question: "are you conducting yourselves in a manner that reflects your mission and values?" Acting with ethics and integrity goes much further than encouraging people to have "good times outside".

        Cons

Customers can be exceptionally difficult and the store can be understaffed and disorganized

I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

Decent to mostly Awesome Co-workers....although that's likely changing as the Co-op slides downhill. Some pro deals Access to gear...and employee auctions...sometimes.

        Cons

MEC, today, is a Co-op, only in the minimum legal, "technical" sense, its founding history, and the popular imagination of wanna-be do-gooders. The reality is an inefficient corporation that no longer even earnestly tries to provide good value to members, owners, and employees and is being held hostage to senior management and the board . MEC members and employees MUST UNITE TOGETHER AGAIN and take back the Co-op...

        Advice to Management

Take a long, long, walk in the woods...consider the effects your policy decisions have had on the lives that support the pyramid you stand atop of, and consider not coming back. Consider Opening the Co-op up again, to the people, members, owners, and employees who may actually be and think differently( not just look or"identify" differently) then the narrow band the senior leadership operation from. The best thing...

I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op full-time for more than 8 years

        Pros

People are generally great; attempts are made to get people active.

        Cons

Management have ruined the collaborative feeling of the company. No vision and no idea how to improve morale for those remainders that have not quit or been fired.

        Advice to Management

People leave not because of the company, but because of management. Do the company a favor and move on. The damage is done.
