I worked at Mountain States Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Upward mobility, full-time positions, great benefits, and friendly atmosphere.

    Cons

Scheduling, exposure to illness, moderate stress

    Advice to Management

Its hard to sort out negative influence in all new employees, but saw a few managers that should never have been there. One in particular that wrecked a well built team. Focus on vetting new management better, and if one is causing too much friction to keep them for too long.

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of specialties to choose from in a position. Lots of opportunities for learning and expanding. Company pays for certifications and learning opportunities.

    Cons

Over the years they have shown they care less and less for their nurses. Understaffing, then when complaints reach a roar about nursing ratios, they change their staffing grid to make it not 'understaffed.' Keep adding more and more responsibilities to nurses with fewer and fewer resources.

    Advice to Management

Management, especially upper management, does not care about their nurses. They harp, reprimand, scold, all while adding more and more menial tasks and not paying close to enough. Making unsafe nursing environments and not accepting complaints or feedback.

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the people I work with! Everyone works together on my unit.

    Cons

Very high turnover and the pay is not competitive for the area. Odds are you will not get any bonuses. There is very little opportunity for advancement or even recognition for your work. My manager does a wonderful job, but higher up managers are very out of sync with the demands on the floor and have unrealistic demands. I would never want to be a manger.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like they matter, and pay them, they might just stick around.

I worked at Mountain States Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good learning environment. Friendly staff and great hours.

    Cons

Slow. Most of the time was spent sitting around waiting for work. IS Team needs a sense of urgency rather than waiting until last minute to complete tickets.

    Advice to Management

Ignite some passion in your IS team. Most of these guys are lazy and wait the full 3 days before they fix a ticket that might only take 5 minutes. Then they still leave the ticket open instead of completing. More professionalism needed instead of talking about each others issues at home.

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people that want to make a difference for patients. Fun atmosphere. There is room for advancement in almost every position.

    Cons

Pay is below market average. Some people get raises and promotions when it seems they don't do anything better than the rest of us. But, that happens at a lot of companies.

    Advice to Management

Make requirements for advancement clearer and listen to your employee's ideas.

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of overtime, if you want / need it. Insurance is okay. Self scheduling for your regular days if your manager allows for it.

    Cons

Poor hourly base pay, no certification pay (ALS, NIH, PALS, Chemo Admin).

    Advice to Management

Stop buying up other hospital properties and take care of your employees!

    Pros

    Great teamwork environment.
Good experience to further your career.

    Cons

Pay rate is low with no hope for increases.
Nurses are treated as easily replaced by new grads who won't care that the pay is so low.
Holiday pay, overtime pay, PTO benefits etc are decreasing rather than increasing.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees rather than treating them as expendable.
