    Pros

Discount. It’s 50% off their sale price so pretty good chance you’ll get product at a bargain price. Not that it lasts long but you’re not paying much for it.

    Cons

Pretty much everything else. -Told you’ll get a weekend off per month but as they run on minimum staff this gets pushed around and you’ll be lucky to get 1 off every 2 months if you push for it. -outdated computer systems meaning you have to use the card machine as a separate unit to the till. You process sale on the card reader then again on the till. Keeping copies of receipts to match up any errors and you do get errors. A 9 press too many on the card reader turns that 19.99 sale into a 199.99 sale. - you’ll be double handling a lot of things in store. Check in on computer to start shift but also need to check in on the daily sign-in sheet. Refunds processed on till and card reader then details logged on another sheet of paper in store. Price changes completed by staff, signed off by manager then signed off again by area manager when visiting. The list goes on. - price changes every Wednesday 2/3/4 pages long which is about 150-200 price changes. - zero stock control. You’ll see items on the computer system showing a full size range in store but you can’t even find one never mind the 7 that’s on stock on the computer. Alt. You’ll find 3 items on the stand and none are on stock. Why? Because their deliveries turn up on any day of the week with any amount of boxes and every box contain any amount of stock and none of it is detailed on a box ID number for tracking or booking in. You just need to open the box and stick it out. - deliveries as I said come on random days. You’ve no idea how many boxes just that you’re due a drop off between 12:00 & 1300. Could be 1 box, could be 31 boxes. This happens almost daily so you’ve no time to mess about. You and the one (maybe two if you’re lucky) other staff member have to get it all processed before the next one arrives. No time to chat to customers, got delivery to do. - staff hours are way below minimum. Often leaving you along to open or/and close. You may get someone in for lunch cover only then it’s just you again or maybe you and manager/assistant manager. - stock rooms seem to be tiny in MW with the logic being the shop floor is the stock room. Stack it high and stack it full. Even if it means 6 size M on the arm put it out as no room in stockroom. Staff rooms are non existent as well as a result of this mindset. If any exist they’re super rare. Most just have a camp table in the “stock room” to sit at if you’re not covered by boxes of stock or metal work. -deliveries, mannequin redress, shop floor standards, price changes, all the double handling paperwork, expect to do all this and more in a day pretty much by yourself, your manager may be there to help on days if you’re not missing each other covering days off. - dont expect to speak to many customers as a result. If you do you’re just wasting time that could be spent doing any of the other tasks that need doing. Talking about shoes.? That’s a delivery box not put out. Or a dozen price changes not complete that someone will need to do tomorrow now. - cashing up can’t be done till you close the shop as once you cash up the card reader you can’t take anymore sales. Expect this 10-15 minutes spent cashing up after close to be missing from the rota. You’ll be in 9-6 but won’t get out to 6:15 unless it’s busy and you can’t do the prep you can do for cash up then it might be nearer 6:30. Unpaid ofc. Most weeks I ended up on 42-43 hours as a result. No time back, no overtime pay. Just unpaid hours each week and it’s expected. So yea only take it if you wish to regret it. Seems to be a place where if you’ve been with them for years you stay and don’t mind it. If you’ve worked anywhere remotely modern though in the last few years it’s like going back in time 10-15 years. They’ve not moved on or modernised. Which is unfortunate as they talk about efficiency a lot and yet so much of your day is inefficient and could be done quicker and better if they just got with the times and invested. Investment isn’t in the vocabulary though.

    Pros

Free tea & coffee, sometimes the occasional piece of fruit.

    Cons

Directors put unnecessary pressure on the managers, who in turn push onto the buying teams. Processes aren't the best and only add further strain.

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Encouragement to advance in your role and many opportunities to do so - Well structured management system in terms of how stores are run across the country. - Clear expectations of your role and well defined training system.

    Cons

    - The actual merchandise you sell is poor quality, thus it's difficult to deal with customer complaints as you don't have trust in the products themselves. - Very poor till systems and very behind with technology in terms of what you would expect for a company of this size.
